tonymacx86 Build - GA-P55M-UD2 - Core i5-750 - 8800 GT

So I built this exact same system back in 2010 for my Dad and have basically told him not to update at all for fear of things not working. He is still on SL. System has started to slow down a bit, partially because he doesn't know how to quit applications. Long story short, I picked up a Kingston HyperX 3k 128gb for him on the cheap and have decided to install a clean copy of ML on it, then wipe the old HD to use as storage. I just have basic questions about how best to go about this because its hard for me to interpret piece-meal from this thread and others exactly how I should do this. I did just build the 2nd system in my signature and that so far is running beautifully (I am typing from that machine now). So far I have gathered the following steps: (please correct me if I am wrong).

1. Follow the Unibeast guide for ML from August 2012 word for word (including legacy USB setting in Unibeast)
2. download the DSDT for motherboard from database and place on desktop along with Multibeast
3. go by your multibeast settings (alc888b/887-v100202 legacy + lnx2mac realtek ethernet) + latest version TRIM support
............. and that's it? 100% working system?

Questions now are:
1. should I update motherboard bios to latest version or not?
2. are there any multibeast options I need to choose for the sparkle geforce 9400 GT?
3. any other kexts/options from multibeast that are mandatory? (fakeSMC, boot options, system definitions- assuming should just keep mac pro 3,1)
4. is using migration assistant from time machine the best way to restore all his applications and files? Am I better off just re-installing all the programs from scratch?
5. what is best way to lengthen life of the SSD? I have seen some posts about offloading browser cache off the SSD, what is best way to do that? What is best way to move all the other storage folders (documents, downloads, movies, music, photos) off the SSD without having to go into each program and selecting a new destination folder?

Thanks for answering any of my n00b questions, I have built 2 hackintoshes already, but actually use windows myself, hehe.

I'm currently running my P55M-UD2/UD4 systems with the last BIOS and appropriate DSDT. Check my two build descriptions for my notes on using MultiBeast. I've updated Lion over SL and have done a clean install using Migration Assistant. Either way, back up your original drive. There are other threads that will answer the rest of your questions.

Thanks for the help, but your build somehow seemed a lot more complicated than my situation; given I am just using it as a desktop and am doing a clean ML install. Also are all your multibeast settings necessary for me? Based on tonymac last screenshot he only checked off 2 items.
So using migration assistance to transfer files and programs from SL to ML is easy and without issues? Just wondering if manually backing up my dads files and just re installing all programs from scratch is better.

So I finally made the jump and did a clean install of ML on a new SSD for my Dad's hackintosh, which again is exactly same config as yours. I updated BIOS to F11 (keeping in mind to use the right revision, mine is 1.0) and used the DSDT from your database for F11 and installed using multibeast with the exact same settings as you had in your last screenshot. Followed the guide article to the letter. The install went without a hitch other than me forgetting to apply legacy USB for unibeast, which I realized after an hour. Sound, video, network all works fine, and system is very fast, but sleep does not. When I try to wake from sleep it just reboots instead. Is there any simple explanation for this? Anything in the bios settings I need to make sure of? Do I need to re-flash bios to F10?

Unfortunately I do not have the hackintosh with me anymore as my Dad needs to use it and took it back with him as the rest of it seems to work fine for now.

Thanks.

Just upgraded to lion on this build with the help of the tonymacx86 DSDT, the machine won't sleep though, it just turns off completely when i click sleep. Also, the new HWMonitor App only shows my hard drive temperature? i installed the FakeSMC.kext from the latest Multibeast.

Update to Mountain Lion, use the latest MultiBeast, and check all boxes in Energy Saver. You should be able to sleep.

If you have OS X on a SSD, don't check the one that states "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible."

Can you tell why? Does the disk which contains the OS sleep? I guess it's only for the other disks (e.g. 2nd hdd for data), isn't it?
