[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Thanks. I got it working by just plug-in in the card. No need to do any changes to the current EFI as that boot arg was already part of it

Wonderful! Have you tried connecting a USB-C monitor if you have one? LG UltraFine 5K (latest model) supports USB-C Alt-Mode, so it should connect over USB-C directly from the 6800XT.

  • agdpmod=pikera --> only needed for RX 5000 and RX 6000 series GPUs
  • igfxfw=2 --> should be used if your CPU has an iGPU and it is enabled in BIOS
  • shikivga=80 --> should be used in Mojave and Catalina, but has no effect in Big Sur

You know, once upon a time on my z370 I could use igfxfw=2 and could see the speed jump up intel power gadget. Then, seemingly, all of a sudden it wasn't supported for my board (boot hang on loading firmware). Is this a known thing or do you think I should investigate?

If you make frequent use of Intel QuickSync technologies, then it's worth investigating. I have only tested this on Coffee Lake and Comet Lake, but with Catalina and Big Sur. This command, as you may know, causes Apple's graphics microcode (GuC) to be loaded into the iGPU. At least that's the way it should work..

I’m sorry, I don’t have one and just bought the ultra wide screen using DisplayPort ;)

Do i need agdpmod=pikera shikigva=80 igfxfw=2 boot flags, that are included in EFI, if i have Radeon VII?
shikigva=80 helps with copy protection stuff. igfxfw=2 is a flag to allow firmware updates to the intel integrated graphics. Neither are necessary for RVII but may be useful. gdpmod=pikera is toxic on RVII and may cause boot failure.

I can confirm that iMac pro1,1 SMBIOS + Radeon VII boot and works with current EFI and only these boot args: keepsyms=1 dart=0 debug=0x100 alcid=11

Another question is, why HEVC export from FCPX does not use GPU? (h264 does). VideoProc shows everything is available.

I can confirm that Aorus Master needs agdpmod=piker and igfxfw=2, and it works well with my RX 6900XT. I'm still running under the iMac 19,1 profile. I even have my RVII working in an eGPU configuration. I did test whether I still needed agpdmod=piker, but it was a no go- booting to black screen. I could remotely login and see the desktop, so I had to add it back in. The RX 6900 work well in Premiere. I have to say, the RVII is surprisingly stable in the eGPU. I need to do some testing to see if I realize any benefits in Premiere with it connected. I'm still able to run 3 monitors, but I moved my HDMI monitor directly to GPU.

If you have vt-d disabled in BIOS dart=0 is redundant. The debugger args are optional, not necessary for booting.

Do you notice better performance with the 6900? I'm tempted to trade up my RVII while the market is high assuming I can actually find a 6900. I know it benches higher but I haven't seen any reports of benefits in real world use yet.
