[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Weerik,
I see Casey responded in another post, but I’d like to add that Casey helped me getting my similar configuration to work for my eGPU WITHOUT flashing the thunderbolt bus. Mac OS of course DOES NOT recognize the eGPU for OS purposes, but Resolve DOES, and that’s all I care about.
Casey suggested I remove the two hot plug ssdts and it worked. I’ve got my eGPU Radeon VII (as well as my internal Vega 64) set in Resolve prefs and it’s the fastest i9-9900k on the Standard Candle test database. I also have Radeon boost installed and it made a big difference.

Hey that sounds really good! If it works for Resolve only I'm a happy camper! Do you remember what SSDT's I need to disable in OpenCore? @CaseySJ Maybe you still remember? My config.plist is still attached in my original post.

Hey @CaseySJ
Thanks for you detailed reply. I'll take a look in what could be the cause using your steps. Everything works fine again after I've cleared my Safari cache folder but the questions is for how long. Sounds you think it's doesn't have to be a Hackintosh related problem, right? Could have happened on a "real" Mac as well?

I'm still interested in the eGPU story, as I'm using the eGPU mostly on my Macbook. Changing it every week from my Hackintosh back in the eGPU enclosure and vice versa is not very practical. I could not find a mention regarding eGPU's in your original post. Is flashing the on board controller the same for everyone with a Designare Z390? If there is a guide somewhere please let me know.

Thanks again.
Some eGPUs will work (barely) with the standard Thunderbolt firmware. Simply try this:
  • Disable the Thunderbolt SSDT in OpenCore config.plist
    • This disables hot plug so all Thunderbolt devices must be connected and powered on before booting
  • Then connect the eGPU and power it on
  • Reboot the computer
  • Does eGPU work?
  • If not, reboot and go to BIOS Setup:
    • Change CSM Support to Enabled
  • Boot macOS
  • Does eGPU work?

May need to perform CMOS Reset and configure BIOS parameters starting with F7 (Load Optimized Defaults).

Sorry about the photos,
F9j

Thanks, this.

it booted at last

@CaseySJ Thanks your support.
Please how should I proceed to hide a drive at the beginning of OpenCore.
I had to reformat the system and now a disc appears at the beginning 'EFI' ... I've formatted some 3x, and I can't hide or disappear with it at the beginning.
Thanks.

Glad to hear it!

However, F9j is problematic because USB devices won't work in the two Thunderbolt ports. Hence we recommend F9g or F9i, both of which are available from the Quick Reference spoiler (section 1) at the top of Post 1.

Some questions/comments:
  • Are there two or more disks in the system that have EFI partitions?
  • Is there a USB flash disk or other external disk connected to the system that has an EFI partition?
  • In the main EFI partition (of the internal macOS SSD), what folders exist inside the EFI folder?
    • BOOT
    • OC
    • APPLE
    • Anything else?

Thanks,

It is very strange, this started to happen, after completely formatting the M2 unit and cloning with CCC.
Now two EFI folders appear, containing the same folders, it seems that it has been replicated.

Which version of OpenCore are you using?
In the middle photo, was the external drive disconnected?

I only have two M2 internal hard drives, one for Mac and one for Windows.
Completely separated.
But now, strangely, a third drive appears, which is an EFI folder, which was replicated when I cloned it with Carbon Copy.

Try CMOS Reset and configure BIOS parameters again, starting with F7 (Load Optimized Defaults). Be sure to disable CFG-Lock as well.
