[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

All right, but I should be able to drive the monitor with the the Radeon VII DP to LG USB-C should work,
right? - Any thoughts how I could achieve that?

I may change to iMacPro1,1 Pro Apps (No iGPU) since I use this system for video editing with
Adobe apps and Da Vinci Resolve. Like in Pics below:

But for now I wanted to test the USB-C capabilities of the LG monitor.
Also, I don't have another usb-c/Thunderbolt capable device to test the motherboard with.
It is easy to change Platform ID to 0x3E9B0007 in order to enable video output from the two Thunderbolt/USB-C ports on the rear IO panel. A simple search of this thread will provide the procedure.

Then you can connect a USB-C to USB-C cable that is certified for DisplayPort such as this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087BV5R98/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

Notice that the description includes support for "4K video output".

I'm just using this, but the problem persists, no video signal on iPad. Only black screen
Are you trying to use Sidecar?

Finally found the solution, I posted it on Apple Watch related thread:

@CaseySJ, I think it’s worth being mentioned in the troubleshooting section

Nice. Will add it to “Troubleshooting / FAQ” section in Z490 Vision D thread because it already has such a section.

This has been added to Troubleshooting / FAQ section in Z490 Vision D build guide:

Hi @CaseySJ

I flashed my Alpine-Ridge with modified firmware. With the SSDT in #16293 I can see Thunderbolt info in System information and also see my Blackmagic recorder. But I can't use the recorder. I can't boot with the SSDT generated by the web GUI method. Seems like my 'port' setup needs some attention.

So here is my DSDT and ioregistry (using the SSDT in #16293), could you take a look? Thank you!

Yes, but nothing to do, always black screen, I can only see the sidebar, and on arrangement I can see it

Hello @oreoapple,

Your GC-Alpine Ridge is connected to port RP21. The Thunderbolt SSDT you downloaded is most likely using something else, perhaps RP05. Did you rename the root port to RP21?

Some suggestions:
  • Try the suggestions in this post.
  • Check your shikigva value in Boot Arguments. What value are you using?
  • Check your SMBIOS name. Are you using iMac19,1 or iMacPro1,1?

I found out the issue:
I tried both RP21 and RP05, they actually both partially work. If I put the mini-recorder before power on the system, they both work.
But if I try hot-plug, the system can detect the recorder but no function. No big deal, I will live with partial hot-plug.

Another questions is the speed is 20x2, is that normal for AR?

This is not a solution. Please run IORegistryExplorer and search for "Thunderbolt", then post a screenshot.

When your Type-C to Type-A adapter arrives, I would be curious to know what speeds you get on those red ports...
I haven't received the adapters yet but I decided to test with my Sabrent NVMe enclosure that I know for certain is Gen 2 (plugging it into any of my 4 TB3 ports confirms the 10Gbps link speed). The product came with both a C to C and C to A cable and a lot of this is heavily dependent on whether or not that C to A cable is indeed Gen 2 compliant or not, but after the results I've gotten I'm inclined to say that it is.

First and foremost I wanted a baseline to compare so I plugged the drive into both of the onboard Yellow DAC and Blue USB 3 ports. Interestingly the Yellow ports established a 5Gbps link speed as expected, but the Blue ones established only a 480Mbps USB 2 speed! I've since confirmed that my SSDT is properly configured by plugging in other USB 3 devices into those ports and getting the expected 5Gbps.

For the
Red ports, the one on the RIGHT (closest to Ethernet) established a 5Gbps almost immediately as shown in the screenshot below.
Right Red.png
The LEFT port was very interesting (closest to the DP connector) as IOReg indicated that the drive seemed to be repeatedly negotiating a connection for a good minute before establishing a 5Gbps link and mounting the volume.
Left Red [Mounted].png

What's very interesting is that during the LEFT port negotiations, there were times where the drive would get far enough (but never manage to mount the volume) that a refresh of System Profiler would display it as follows:
Left Red [Unmounted].png

In conclusion it seems that these ports may indeed be able to support Gen 2 10Gbps. From these screenshots, I'm noting that the mA of "Current Available" to the drive is a much lower 500 when connected in 10Gbps mode than the 900 available when connected as 5Gbps. Given that the "Current Required" is 896 mA, I'm wondering if power might not be properly configured to give the device enough current when running at Gen 2.

I'm looking to do some more testing with the C to C cable once those adapters arrive but I'm not expecting anything much different.

For the record I think everymac got it wrong as the Mac mini shows nothing special with the drive and just establishes a 5Gbps link on the Type-A ports immediately. Nothing interesting happening in IOReg either.
