[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

This might work. You're referring to Target Display Mode.
yes its that target display mode how to get the rom to flash the chip and do I take the patch rom file directly or do I have to modify it

Hello my good people , my system has been working (not counting one weird glitch) hella fine thanks to CaseySj amazing guide , but I never realized that non of my two usb c work , it will charge an oculus quest 2 , iPad Pro 2 etc but not work as a hard drive port at all , also did anyone figure if we can use anything over 2700mhz ddr4 without usb eject ? THNX !

1. Love the guide! This is friggin awesome. I was hoping to get hardware acceleration going but I dont know where to start. Is there a guide relating to hardware acceleration?

2. how can I minimized boot time?

3. I have a flashed Titan Ridge thunderbolt 3 card installed, It is registering as a TB card but it is limited to 20 Gb/s. Any suggestions?
Not sure what you mean by items 1 and 2, but regarding item 3, please create a custom Thunderbolt DROM based on this guide (use Method 3):

Flashing the Thunderbolt firmware chip is a delicate and risky procedure. It should only be done by those who are very comfortable with computer technology. All details are in Quick Reference spoiler at the top of Post #1 in Section 8. That section is intentionally split into sub-sections to make the process a tiny bit harder in order to discourage people from trying it. Those who are really determined and have the necessary skills, however, will figure it out.

Regarding USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 3 ports), please note that we have intentionally disabled USB 2.0 devices from operating on those ports. This allows us to preserve the macOS limit of 15 USB ports per controller. USB 3.0 devices using a USB 3.0 certified USB-C cable will work properly.

thank you , i read your reply somwhere about ipad pro using usb2.0 via usb C so i thought that what it was. THNX

Alright, please try the following two different experiments.

Experiment #1:
  • Flash the attached Alienware-M15-TB3-FW-MOD-4-Casey.bin to the Thunderbolt firmware chip.
  • Use the same Thunderbolt SSDT from the previous test (SSDT-TB-HackinDROM.aml).
  • Perform a cold boot with and without TB3 device connected. Check hot-plug as well.
  • Do your Thunderbolt devices connect and operate?
  • If problems persist, try the next experiment.
Experiment #2:
  • Flash the original Thunderbolt firmware back to the chip.
  • We will use an SSDT to enable Thunderbolt Bus. This SSDT requires the original Thunderbolt firmware.
  • Download the new SSDT: SSDT-TbtOnPch-Alientware-M15.aml
  • Copy it to the CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder and remove any previous Thunderbolt SSDT.
  • Copy the attached config.plist to the CLOVER folder. This version simply adds a new ACPI rename, which you may disable if the experiment fails. View attachment 492679

Thanks for the help again. For experiment 1, it shows the same result as before. Hot plug works, but egpu is not detected w/wo cool boot. However, USB-C hot plug works.

For experiment 2, it is also the same as I have with just the original rom. Hot plug doesn't work, but egpu is detected with cold boot. Thunderbolt chip is only detected with cool boot.

No bus is shown with this exp2 either w/wo cool boot.

I wonder if it has something to do with the bios. I also attached a Setup dump from my bios. I only change the thunderbolt security level to No Security.
