[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

I'm pretty certain I tried that (albeit with a USB 3.0 hub) as one of my troubleshooting steps, and it had no effect on stability.

The Intel Wifi/BT module is disabled by the SSDT files in the build guide.
Hmmm... very interesting! I ordered up an Inateck card too. It should be here today. I'm anxious to try it out too.

Casey, do you know if the black USB 2.0 ports on this motherboard have their own controller?

I was just thinking that too, or perhaps trying a PCIe USB 2.0 card for 2.0 specific devices (that is, if they can even be found anymore. I'm not sure).
I have an iLok2 with tons of licenses. Plus elicensers. No probs.
Now that a number of us are looking at Inatek, Sedna, and other USB 3.x cards/controllers and even finding issues with some built-in USB hubs in monitors (e.g. Dell monitors), it might be a good time to reread the MacRumors article on similar issues facing Apple MacBooks:

I have/use a Logitech USB webcam. Works fine. Plus iLok. Novation keyboard. Touche. Powermate. elicenser. iPad. Logitech dongle. Softube Console, etc.

Would you mind sharing a detailed breakdown of your USB devices including any hubs, and which port they're plugged in to, please? As we can't find a common denominator to the freezes (like the iLok) perhaps we can try and find and test a stable physical configuration

Just to add to the USB freezes,
I'm getting them rarely, but once a week or so. Occasionally a couple of times a day on a really bad day. I do not have an iLok.

I'm using a custom map created with USBMap, OC 0.5.9 & SSDT-EC-USBX from the OC Coffee Lake guide.

It may be related to my Logitech webcam - I primarily get crashes when this is in use, but it does happen outside of this on the odd occasion too.

I've moved the cam to SSP1/SSP2 under the hope this would prevent the freezing... but no difference. Now that I've done this, strangely occasionally the mic from the camera will stop working until I reboot.

I also have a Fenvi T919 with the Bluetooth USB connected to the USB-2 header on the motherboard (HS11/HS12 - behind a 4 way splitter), this also has my water pump and LED controllers on it.

I wonder if most people here with issues are running the Fenvi T919? Has anyone with these issues tried removing this from the internal header?

I use Fenvi T919 and has a very stable system. Mapped to HS11/HS12 as internal, with no other headers. So not sure if that would be the issue here.

These are randomly plugged in/out. There's no magic, except that I have my cheap USB3 hub plugged into an USB3 port. When I think about it. The order is determined by length of available USB cables mostly...
I do have a problem with a completely depleted iPad, then charging simply doesn't work. And my cheap card reader and 10 year old/beaten SATA-to-USB cradle will sometimes need a replug before the disk/card is seen. I also have this when using them with my NAS and MacBook Pro, that's more or less typical for USB stuff. Cheap and not very reliable. If it doesn't work, I just get something else.

I created a script to load, examine, and edit Thunderbolt DROMs.
Code:
[losinka@imac]:~/Downloads/ThunderboltDROMUtil/Scripts$ sh ./ThunderboltUtil.sh
./ThunderboltUtil.sh: line 359: syntax error near unexpected token `else'
./ThunderboltUtil.sh: line 359: ` else'

I have not tried this yet. I am running a Fenvi card, although I'm not exactly sure of the model off the top of my head. It's a few years old now. I haven't tried disconnecting it just yet, but it has been on my list of things to try here soon.

I litearlly just unboxed and put in my Inateck card. Thanks again for confirming it works Casey! Mine is working perfectly so far, and I'm amazed to say that I can still get into Bios with it, and navigate Clover menu. I didn't know if that functionality would be there if I moved my keyboard over to it.

Currently, I have moved all 3 of my USB devices over to it (Apple keyboard, Asus mouse, and Ableton Push II). I have left the front USB's and also the Fenvi bluetooth card connected to the internal headers, so... I should be able to tell if the internal USB drops out at some point, and if/when it does, confirm that this card works around the issue by allowing devices plugged into it to continue functioning.

Very very very exciting, things are looking promising right now, but it's most certainly too early to tell. Will def keep you guys updated over the next couple weeks.
