[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Some follow-ups:
  • Are you running Mojave or Catalina?
  • Is this a new installation or an existing one? If it's an existing one, was everything working previously?
  • What is the actual model name of the XFX RX 580?
Have you seen NOTE 4 at the top of Post #1:

I am running Mojave.
The installation si fairly new, not older than a month. Everything was working fine with this card but started randomly to panic.
The model name of the card is XFX GTS RX580 XXX 8GB.
I have seen the NOTE when I started but I already had this card.

L.E: Is it safe to flash the vBIOS with one from Sapphire Pulse?

Do I necessarily need to flash the motherboard chip to be able to run the G-Raid?

One other question, is there a way to make my boot time faster? I already selected "fast" under Boot in Clover. But I would expect a faster boot running an NVMe SSD.

Certain configurations will increase your boot time that being said until you hit enter on Clover or OpenCore on your boot drive, the speed of your drive is rather insignificant. With Thunderbolt and IGPU enabled it think it adds about 15 seconds to my boot time. If your system from apple logo is booted in 30-50 secs I would say that is pretty good.

Regarding your G-Raid it should work without Node support and thus working without flashing the motherboard chip.

Please post a screenshot of System Information --> WiFi, but blank out any private information.

I checked, i can still join a 5ghz network, but not a 2.4 ghz. So strange, i never had that issue and now, the 2.4ghz connection stopped to work...I use the Fenvie T919

We used to think that Sidecar will not work on sysdefs that contain a T2 chip. A real iMac Pro contains a T2 chip. A real iMac 19,1 does not. But more recently we think it might be possible to enable Sidecar even on iMacPro1,1 if you do this:
  • Option 1:
    • Set shikigva=80 in Boot Arguments.
    • Reboot.
    • Does Sidecar work?
  • Option 2: (if option 1 fails)
    • BIOS Setup --> enable iGPU
    • Set shikigva=80 in Boot Arguments.
    • In Clover Configurator, set AAPL,ig-platform-id back to 0x3E980003
      • This can be done using Hackintool, as follows:
      • When the Save dialog appears, navigate to your config.plist and click on it even though config.plist will be grayed out!
      • Then click Save. A backup will be made of the original file.
      • Reboot.

Tried both options. iPad screen remains black. However, rendering remains fast. Should I leave the settings like mentioned in Option 2? Or should I switch back?

I have Sidecar operate on my Zenbook laptop (SMBIOS set to MacBookPro15,1 that include T2 Chip) with my iPad Air 2 (iPad5,3). I only have to connect it with USB/lightning cable, for now, no wireless connection is possible.. on my case.

To make this feature possible with old iPad,I had to patch sidecar following ben-z method Here.

Right you are sir! The links are not correct, but they are the only ones I have... I could pull the Wireless Card and send photos, but at this point I think I'd rather just replace it.

I just ordered a replacement from the newegg link on page 1 of this guide (Amazon link isn't working).

Every other continuity feature works flawlessly. I only use AirDrop occasionally, but I use handoff all the time. I appreciate the time and will let you know what happens when the new hardware arrives.

You said you installed these:

But I'm not sure why? If you have a native macOS-supported Broadcom card, you should not need any Broadcom kexts. So the kexts could actually be hurting SideCar and Unlock features.

Would be worth trying this and see if it fixes things:
So it's either your WiFi/BT hardware not supporting the newer continuity features, or something's going on with the Broadcom kexts. Are you sure those kexts are really required? Try updating to the latest version of those kexts, or see what happens if you remove them.
If that doesn't work, then I guess it's safe to say your current WiFi card is at fault.

For your new BCM94360CS2 card, you'll probably need to remove the Broadcom kexts anyway.

Hello @Elias64Fr,

Thanks for pointing this out -- will add it to Post #1 under Contributed Files and Tips.

These are okay to use for testing purposes. I can confirm that Sidecar on my Test Bench still works fine (iMac19,1).

Hi Casey,

I'm trying to use my G-Raid 6TB 0G02298. I think it's Thunderbolt 1. It won't work when connecting directly, which is expected, but I'm also trying to connect it to my OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock with a adaptor, but it won't mount or show up.

It's running perfectly in my Macbook Pro. It shows under the Thunderbolt Bus as expected.

Do I necessarily need to flash the motherboard chip to be able to run the G-Raid?

One other question, is there a way to make my boot time faster? I already selected "fast" under Boot in Clover. But I would expect a faster boot running an NVMe SSD.

Thank you as always for your help.

Hello Eric,

If the G-RAID won't connect (with TB3-to-TB2 adapter) whether plugged directly to the rear IO panel or to an OWC Dock then it may be worth flashing the firmware. But as @scottkendall pointed out, let's check if your unit is the same as @PicLock's. His is a Thunderbolt 2 device. Are you sure yours is Thunderbolt 1?

Regarding boot time, there are 2 constituents:
  • Time from power-up to Clover Boot Menu
  • Time from Clover Boot Menu to macOS login screen
Have you timed the two?

Update: Yes yours is Thunderbolt 1 (left), different from PicLock (right).
