[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Yes you may see improved performance of those specific applications when using iMacPro1,1.

I switched to iMacPro1,1 and deactivated iGPU and indeed, render speed ramped up from 60fps to approx. 300fps. The system also boots up much faster. Only downside: Sidecar doesn't work anymore. Do you know a way to fix that?

Please type the following in Terminal and post the result: kextstat | grep -v apple

OK, here is the result:

kextstat | grep -v apple

Yes. I have been down this particular rabbit hole myself. Searched Google, this and other forums, but no luck. I think a $20 investment in a new card is worth it... If I end up with a working spare, I'll just have to build another hack to use it in (I'm more than a little jealous of your test bench rig)
That sounds like a good idea. The firmware on the current card is quite old if you compare the Firmware Version field in my screenshot (in a previous reply).

Hello @zkejonathan, please clarify the following:
  • Is Catalina 10.15 (original release) already installed on the Designare Z390?
    • If so, did you follow the Catalina Mini-Guide or some other guide?
  • If Catalina 10.15 is already installed, then you should update to 10.15.4 from System Preferences --> Software Update, but first create a new EFI folder on a USB flash disk by following the Mojave to Catalina upgrade guide by clicking here. (Yes I know you are not upgrading from Mojave to Catalina. The procedure in that guide builds a new EFI folder that is compatible with 10.15.4.)
    • Then boot the system with the new USB disk (press F12 at BIOS splash screen and choose the USB).
    • Make sure Catalina 10.15 still boots.
    • Then perform an in-place update from System Preferences --> Software Update.
    • Each time the computer reboots, press F12 at BIOS splash screen and choose the USB.
Hi mate, thx for replying me,
  • Yes, I have the 10.15 installed already.
    • Yes I followed Micro-Guide for Upgrading from Mojave to Catalina 10.15.4 (and this successed)
  • After upgrading my hacky to 10.15.4, I copied the EFI to my USB stick and tried to fresh install but it'll be stuck at the 'install button' step, every time I hit the install button it will just back to macOS Utilities home screen.

I don't have Inject ATI in Clover Configurator but I am using the latest version of WhateverGreen. I have an older version of WhateverGreen but it is the same with the new one.
Some follow-ups:
  • Are you running Mojave or Catalina?
  • Is this a new installation or an existing one? If it's an existing one, was everything working previously?
  • What is the actual model name of the XFX RX 580?
Have you seen NOTE 4 at the top of Post #1:

We used to think that Sidecar will not work on sysdefs that contain a T2 chip. A real iMac Pro contains a T2 chip. A real iMac 19,1 does not. But more recently we think it might be possible to enable Sidecar even on iMacPro1,1 if you do this:
  • Option 1:
    • Set shikigva=80 in Boot Arguments.
    • Reboot.
    • Does Sidecar work?
  • Option 2: (if option 1 fails)
    • BIOS Setup --> enable iGPU
    • Set shikigva=80 in Boot Arguments.
    • In Clover Configurator, set AAPL,ig-platform-id back to 0x3E980003
      • This can be done using Hackintool, as follows:

      • When the Save dialog appears, navigate to your config.plist and click on it even though config.plist will be grayed out!
      • Then click Save. A backup will be made of the original file.
      • Reboot.

OK, here is the result:

kextstat | grep -v apple
...
This shows that both Ethernet drivers are loaded and are the correct versions:

71 0 0xffffff7f86ccb000 0x21000 0x21000 as.acidanthera.mieze.IntelMausi (1.0.2) 229C3DCE-EB82-3BE8-B387-6DE9B181920F <18 13 6 5 3 1>
83 0 0xffffff7f86cec000 0x21000 0x21000 com.smalltree.driver.SmallTreeIntel82576 (1.0.6) F6C5E33A-97AA-37A0-8794-64FAA19FC153 <18 13 6 5 3 1>

If the ports are still not working, the only things I can think of are:
  • Check if you are using a managed or unmanaged hub. What is the make/model of the Ethernet hub?
  • Check if you are using any Internet security applications such as Intego NetBarrier or Intego Mac Internet Security. If you are, the app must be given the security privileges it needs (from System Preferences --> Security & Privacy --> Privacy).
  • Check all BIOS settings. If in doubt, select Load Optimized Defaults and configure BIOS settings again based on Post #1.
  • Try deleting the two Ethernet ports in System Preferences --> Network. Just click on each one and press the minus icon "-" at the bottom of the list. Reboot. They should get re-detected automatically.

Are you trying to do a fresh 10.15.4 installation on a new system? Or trying to do a fresh install of the same 10.15.4 on the same system (but to a different SSD)?

If you're doing a fresh install, please follow the fresh-install guide for 10.15.4.

when update to 19E266, H264 HEVC now not work, how to repair ?

Hi Casey,

I'm trying to use my G-Raid 6TB 0G02298. I think it's Thunderbolt 1. It won't work when connecting directly, which is expected, but I'm also trying to connect it to my OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock with a adaptor, but it won't mount or show up.

It's running perfectly in my Macbook Pro. It shows under the Thunderbolt Bus as expected.

Do I necessarily need to flash the motherboard chip to be able to run the G-Raid?

One other question, is there a way to make my boot time faster? I already selected "fast" under Boot in Clover. But I would expect a faster boot running an NVMe SSD.

Thank you as always for your help.
