[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi guys, @CaseySJ,

Please help, this morning I woke up to my build no longer booting.
I see this when setting the -v flag on clover

View attachment 458318

Yesterday I tried to boot a Windows 10 "live CD" but it did not work. I didn't disconnect my drive because being a live image, I didn't expect it to mess my disks.

After that I simply shut down the computer, and didn't use it until now.

EDIT: Booting now from a backup I had on a mechanical disk, and will try to replace the EFI folder on my SSD. Backup looks quite old. Is there a way to fix this without the backup?
First try CMOS Reset by following the procedure in Designare user manual. We can use a flathead screwdriver to short the two designated pins. All BIOS parameters must be reconfigured afterwards, starting with Save & Exit --> Load Optimized Defaults. Please see the BIOS configuration section in Post #1 for details.

Let us know if the problem persists.

Okay I'm gonna ask the obvious question: If you're watching Netflix in Sidecar, why not just run the Netflix app on the iPad? :)
Yes I know I could run Netflix on the iPad, but I also run it on my second screen if I'm not using that for other things. The point is to get this build working like a real mac not having to compromise. That is why I asked for help. :)

@CaseySJ any new revelations on the 10.15.3 to 10.15.4 updates not completing and cleaning up reboot? Is the NVRAM unlock needed?

I did that and now my Verbose boot only shows a bunch of + signs:

That's the million dollar question! We're just waiting for someone (like you :)) to test an Antelope audio interface on a flashed Designare Z390. You would be the first person to do this...

Copying @qthegaijin @franzasensi because of their interest in this.

Hi guys, I also have an antelope interface and would love to help, to get my interface working and to give back to this community from which I've gained so much.

However, two questions:
1. What are the risks? My designare build is my main studio machine and I totally rely on it everyday.
2. Can you all guide me? I'd be completely out of my depth; Although I've been Hackintoshing since Tiger I'm no computer scientist!

Hi @CaseySJ
Following back up on the 4 wake codes that I was continuously receiving throughout the night

The errors seem to be the below four from most common:

1) (AppleACPIPlatform) AppleACPIPlatformPower Wake reason: XDCI
2) [powerd:sleepWake] Wake reason: "private” identity: "private”
3) AppleACPIPlatformPower Wake reason: PEG1 PEGP PEG2 PEGP PXSX RP03 PXSX UPSB DSB0 NHI0 DSB1 DSB2 XHC5 DSB4 RP06 PXSX RP07 PXSX RP08 PXSX PXSX RP10 PXSX RP11 PXSX R
4) AppleACPIPlatformPower Wake reason: RTC (Alarm)

WHAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR:

Above the 'Private' code (2) in the logs I am always getting this right before:

[powerd:sleepWake] AppWoke:com.apple.bluetoothd-blueavengers Reason:BlueAvengers: Toggle beacon state

The XDCI code (1) is actually happening every time when the computer shuts off for sleep based off of the time stamps— is that normal?

The other two codes (3,4) I have not had since restarting my computer and doing a fresh install. Things I have done differently so far:
1) Fresh install - did NOT do migration assistant
2) have NOT connected to any apple services including iCloud yet

Culprit for errors 3 and 4 are likely one of the above

Is it possible to pin this somewhere as there are likely other people that have same errors and working with people might help me solve a little faster.
It's always possible to create a new thread in the Catalina Desktop Support forum. However, attached are the sleep/wake logs from my Test Bench that has gone though about 8 sleep/wake cycles since being booted a day ago. This system sleeps and wakes repeatedly (even after all-night sleep) with no problem of any kind!

Components:
  • Designare Z390
  • Intel Core i5-9600K
  • 16 GB Silicon Power DDR4 3200 MHz (CL16) at XMP Profile 1
  • Be Quiet! Dark Rock air cooler
  • MSI Radeon RX580 Armor GPU in top x16 slot
  • Fenvi FV-T919 in bottom short slot.
  • Original Intel CNVi WiFi/BT module still installed (never had to take it out).
  • BIOS F7 configured as in Post #1.
  • Logitech Unifying USB receiver with Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse.
  • Thunderbolt Bus activated with flashed firmware.
  • EVGA SuperNova 750 G3 power supply.
  • AOC Agon AG273QCX monitor connected via HDMI to AMD GPU.

Do you still have the USB install disk? If so, connect the disk, press F12 at BIOS splash screen to select the USB, but then at the Clover Boot Menu select the normal internal macOS SSD. Does it boot?

Is this Catalina or Mojave?

UPDATE: If you were using native NVRAM, it's possible that MSR 0xE2 has been relocked. Follow the procedure here to unlock it.

Awesome!

Regarding slow boot time, if it’s bothersome then try this (insane?) procedure...
@CaseySJ
many thanks for posting this procedure.
Here is the output for patching the DSDT in the config.plist file for GC Titan Ridge with NVM23 modified firmware:

Comment: disable \_GPE.TINI (Zero, RPS0, RPT0, Zero)
Find: FF5C2E5F 47504554 494E4900 52505330 52505430 86
Replace: FF

best and stay safe

@CaseySJ

hmm, you don't have either of these codes in your log. Is it possible to send a screenshot of the USB section of Hackintool so I can see what differences we have since our motherboards are the same?

as these codes are happening when the computer goes to sleep, I would assume it is something wrong with one of my ACPI files and/or USBMAP?

(I’m on opencore so if you have your OC ACPI folder that would also be helpful :))

Certainly:

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I've been using USBPorts.kext recently. This means I've removed USBInjectAll.kext and the SSDT-UIAC-DESIGNARE-Z390-V7.aml. This version of USBPorts will only with if SMBIOS is iMac19,1.
