[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

try booting in verbose mode and see if that tells us anything.

at the clover screen, use the arrow keys to choose install from prebooter and hit the space bar. on that screen, arrow down and click the Verbose Boot box, then arrow back up and select Boot with selected options.

Thank you for the response, @faithie999

here's what I see on verbose mode. it stops right there.

@CaseySJ Sometimes my build fails to get back from sleep. The motherboard itself does wake up, fans light up and spin, but monitor won't show output.

How can I debug/fix this
A lot of times when I see this it's due to the DRM mechanism (HDCP) that is part of HDMI not renegotiating correctly. Try unplugging at the card, wait 10 or 15 seconds and then plug the cable back in to the card. This will force a new handshake.

I had the identical issue yesterday because I had failed to update Lilu, AppleALC and Whatevergreen kexts to the latest versions, and I hadn't updated Clover to the latest, which I believe is 5107.

did you do those things before installing the update? if not, do so and then reboot and select from the "install from preboot" again.

To update the kexts I just drop the new versions in the EFI partition right? I did that already. Will update the clover now.

  • What is the make/model of your monitor?
  • Are you connecting it via iGPU?
  • If so, are you using the HDMI port on the rear I/O panel?
  • Or the two Thunderbolt / DisplayPort outputs?
  • Are you using any video converters such as DP to DVI, or HDMI to DVI?
  • Are you running Mojave or Catalina?
  • How long has this problem been happening? Was it happening when macOS was first installed?

well, maybe!
a couple of pages back caseySJ gives advice to migrate your "hackintosh" kexts from /Library/Extensions to EFI/Clover/Kexts/other.
but for right now, update clover and see what happens. if it boots successfully, look back a few pages and follow CaseySJ's instructions on migrating kexts.

Post away. I was trying not to bombard poor Caseys thread more than I already do.
@NorthAmTransAm
Tb bus/Local Node finally appeared. Port 5 Active in Asus TBEXIII AlpineRidge
Reflashed NVM18, TB_H attached, multiple restarts with power disconnect, adjust configuraction in bios with reordering of devices (my PCIe4x_2 shares resources with some Sata ports), reset Nvram and ignore caches (just incase).
(My system seemed persistent without tree even after initial cold reboot)
Now working in RPxx with the repository's SSDT :)

The only small issue i have is that with a cold boot without the connected devices, the system does not load them when doing HotPlug (You have to reboot and then it works).
Curiously, the port on the screen of the Thunderbolt Bus varies its speed when attach the device (10Gb/s with the Lacie or Antelope), with which it seems that the card does see the change, but the system does not capture the event. Thus maybe an Clover/SSDT issue (i think i have read that others can do it with Opencore?)

Now fix boot delay, customize DROM, tune SSDT for PCIe16 slot, investigate cold boot issue with any settings or changes in SSDT and investigate Antelope with AlpineRidge EXIII:
ANTELOPE -> @qthegaijin, @CaseySJ Unfortunately with AlpineRidge Asus TBEX3 initially the result is exactly the same as with GC-TitanRidge AIC -> Incomplete load (and without self-assigned IP). NO way... :shifty:

It worked now, after I updated the Clover. Weird thing is that I got a message "Mac OS cannot be installed on this computer" but once I restarted, it was all working well.
