[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

On RX 5700 XT the DP 1 do not run if you don't have multiple screens. The second port is HDMI and the third port is DP is ok, it's run mono screen. And don't forget change for DP on button screen parameters.
OK, thanks. If I want to use Freesunc2, I need to have multiple display? If I don't want to have HDMI?

Just chiming in to say a full CMOS reset by shorting the pins was absolutely necessary in order to get native NVRAM running. It was the one thing that finally made everything work like it's supposed to.
What issues were you having that this fixed? My NVRAM is mostly working but setting boot disc in System Preferences and setting the clover config control panel to mount the refi partition at startup aren't working for me though they seem have valid entires written to NVRAM. Any suggestions?

Please try this:
  • First, perform a CMOS Resetby shorting two small pins on the motherboard with a flat-head screwdriver. Please see the Designare Owner's Manual for the procedure. This procedure might seem scary at first, but it's quite okay and safe.
    • This will force the system to retrain the memory map.
    • This will also reset all BIOS (UEFI firmware) parameters to factory defaults, so please set them all again starting with Load Optimized Defaults.
  • Now try to boot from internal SSD.
    • If this still fails, try booting from USB flash disk (be sure to press F12 during BIOS Splash Screen to enter the BIOS Boot Menu).
If you still have trouble, please let us know.

Even after first working without this I ran into the same problem. I have done CMOS reset and everything is working as expected!

Thanks for your help!

Cheers!

That's not going to help Casey :(. I'm fully aware of the memory allocation error and how to get out of it, it's happened to me dozens of times while attempting to set up native NVRAM. It also sets the BIOS switch needed back to locked every time :(

Finally success - I went back to the two original memory fix files offered in the original Mini Guide

Does this mean that the newer trio of files did not work, namely:
  • OcQuirks.efi
  • OcQuirks.plist
  • FwRuntimeServices.efi
But the previous duo of files worked?
  • OcQuirks-4.efi
  • FwRuntimeServices.efi

I do the bios settings for OC and my screen just stops displaying anything. (Tried both GPU/IGPU HDMI ports)

any tips??

(Only solution to get the screen working again is Clear CMOS..)

UPDATE1: Just did optimized defaults and ONLY turned CSM support off. Can't boot just like before. I need to clear CMOS again to get it working (on mobo the VGA red light stays lit and just stops booting) How can i proceed with this?

Narrowing down CSM support to be the culprit...
BIOS V7
Doing settings one by one:
VT-d Disabled OK
XMP profile1 OK
XHCI Enabled OK
SGX Disabled OK
Above 4G Decoding enabled OK
Internal Graphics Disabled OK

UPDATE2: Problem was FIXED. My Sapphire 580 Special Edition has Dual Bios that can be changed with a switch. Flicked the switch and i'm booted and installing MacOS.

CSM off and one of the bios settings in my GPU just crashed the booting process of the PC, not even reaching BIOS. Letting you know in case someone runs into the same issue.

Well...well....I'm gonna ride the pine on that one.

I will however try whatever draft you're on just to see if dumb luck is in my favor. I'll have to read back again because there were some name changes involved at one point if I remember correctly.
A quick FYI...

One of the firmware files in your collection contains version 42.1 of the Titan Ridge firmware. This is the closest yet to version 33 that's on the Designare Z390. A quick binary comparison of bytes 0x04000 through 0x05000 shows very few differences.

The file in question is Mac-63001698E7A34814-C0_6.84.0-C1_42.1-R0.bin. Prior to your post, the earliest version we found was 47, so this is an improvement. We're trying to get to within +/- 3 revisions, which means ideally versions 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, or 36.

not sure if you remember me chiming in about this some pages back (was getting the stop sign). moving back to the previous duo files you referenced fixed it. so some combination of the 3 files and config.plist isn't working right. or maybe even bios

Cant see any attachments

BTW @CaseySJ I flashed the modified Osy's firmware (using CH341A) onto the TB controller on my Z390 ITx ASRock (cause why not :p). I took it from his GitHub (someone posted in the issues section). Ended up bricking the controller - Lost it in Windows and reinstalling the driver doesn't work in Windows - just like Osy said.
Got it back by re-flashing the the backup via CH341A - I had made a few backups - the checksum doesn't match on everyone of them (maybe the CH341A at fault ?) - so have to be careful.

Leaving it here for anyone out there thinking that this would work - it doesn't :)

Why the heck doing this? These are two different chips.
