[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ

Kexts updated, config.plist modified and then stuck on the exact same lines.
Is there a way to just block the thunderbolt for now like blocking the unsupported GPU or unwanted USB port ?

Hey, sorry for the late reply, haven't gotten a chance to revisit until tonight.

Unfortunately it still is not working. A bunch of new lines appear in the startup, but then it hits the same line as before and the screen shuts off. I usually give it ~10 minutes before I force shut down and try again with an updated config.

I will say that, even though they stop at the same exact time, when I don't have wegoff in my boot arguments, the screen kind of glitches out and then shuts off. When I do have wegoff, it just goes black. Not sure if this is useful or useless info...

@CaseySJ Update – I looked at another thread and tried to boot up with my graphics card installed, and got the booter to load* with 2 scenarios: 1) wegoff included, with the rest of the config the same, and then 2) wegoff excluded, but with agdpmod=pikera.

*the problem NOW is, my screen turns half white, but i see the installer windows in the top left corner. I can almost install but I can't see what I'm doing really so I should probably not do anything. But progress at least... kind of?

@CaseySJ and all you other guy´s

i have 2 Problems that I am not able to fix myself:

1) my system drive is getting fuller and fuller since I updated to 10.14.6. I had this problem last year and do not remember how I fixed it. I don't think that the files are really removed, if I empty my trashcan.
(imac18,3 drive Samsung 970evo)

2) When I switch to 19,1 my bluetooth stops working (Broadcom BCM20702A0)

Any Idea?

Just went all the way thru with new files and all from mini guide installer started, went all the way thru rebooted, came into the second time count no issues, then rebooted, brought me to clover again to start up macos welcome gui and getting CPU halted again..

F8 BIOS
and everything from mini guide new new hard drives too, flashed BIOS both of them, new drive and all its when i tried to open the Welcome GUI for the first time im getting cpu halted i cant recall how i fixed this last time or whats causing it.

Bottom half of verbose before shutdowN
The screenshots show that the highlighted file below (in /System/Library/Frameworks/...) is unknown file type:

Suggestions:
  • It would be helpful to post another previous 3 pages of the crash output.
  • Did you say earlier that you tried to install macOS to a SATA SSD as a way of checking whether the internal NVMe might be the problem?
    • If so, connect the SATA SSD to a working Mac. The SATA SSD can be placed into an external USB 3.0 SSD enclosure such as this one.
    • If macOS is only installed on the internal NVMe SSD, it's possible to use an external USB 3.0 NVMe enclosure such as this one (which accommodates PCIe NVMe instead of SATA M.2).
  • The external USB enclosure can then be connected to a working macOS system.
  • Then please check the above file:
    • Does libBLAS.dylib exist?
    • Is it 4.4 MB?
    • Is it of type: Mach-O dynamic library?

Disabling Thunderbolt in BIOS should be sufficient. If you insert a USB flash disk and then boot into BIOS Setup, you can press F12 to save screenshots directly onto the USB flash disk. They will be large BMP files that can be converted to PNG or JPEG. But please try disabling Thunderbolt in the Gigabyte X299X BIOS and grab a screenshot.

Also post the updated config.plist. If MSR 0xE2 is locked, we need to enter some patches and click some checkboxes.

  • How rapidly is the 970 EVO filling up? For example, if you select Get Info once a day to check the total Used Space, is it growing by hundreds of megabytes, growing by gigabytes, etc.?
  • What is the size of the disk (512GB, 1TB, ...) and how much Free Space is available?
  • Also check whether TRIM is enabled (it should be) by looking at System Information as follows:

  • You're using a USB kext to define the USB ports. In this kext, USB ports HS11 and HS12 are not specified. If Bluetooth is connected to the internal F_USB header on the motherboard, it will not work. But you say it works with SMBIOS iMac18,3? That's puzzling...

  • Your CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder is missing a number of files:
    • We recommend the following:
      Screen Shot 2019-12-13 at 2.49.02 AM.png
  • All of these files are available in Catalina Fresh Install.zip (from the Catalina Mini-Guide).
  • I would recommend:
    • Deleting Racke-iMacPro-Z390Designare-XHCI.kext from the CLOVER/kexts/Other folder.
    • Adding USBInjectAll.kext to the same CLOVER/kexts/Other folder. This kext is in the same ZIP.
    • Deleting everything that currently exists in CLOVER/ACPI/patched.
    • Copying everything inside Copy-to-ACPI-patched (in ZIP file) to the same CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder.
  • Reboot.

Yes that still counts as progress...
  • Are you using a computer monitor or a TV?
  • The files in Catalina Fresh Install.zip were updated recently, especially the two config.plists. There are 2 steps shown in the Mini-Guide to configure both the (a) SMBIOS section and (b) RtVariables.
    • Are you using those latest config files with both steps (a) and (b) carried out?
  • Yes, you may keep the RX 5700 XT installed, connect monitor to the RX 5700 XT, and follow the Mini-Guide procedure for "AMD GPU users with RX 560, 570, 580, ...". In other words, although you have the RX 5700-series GPU, pretend that it's an RX 560 and follow the instructions pertaining to the 560.

Hi everyone, I trying to get a 2nd monitor working via IGP and an USB-C to HDMI connector. This works fine when connected to my MacBook but can't get it to work on the Z-390. Currently have Mojave running ok except for the 2nd monitor.
  • Is the BIOS (V7) of the Z390 Designare suppose to appear via the USB-C ports? (currently only see it via the HDMI port)
  • What should be configured in the BIOS Thunderbolt settings? (tried Discrete TB enabled/disabled, TBT Vt-d disabled, Boot support disabled, wake disabled, security level none)
  • Is this the proper patch for IGP and dual monitors?
Any magic that can get this to work highly appreciated!

By default, the two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports are configured for DisplayPort instead of HDMI. Does your monitor support DisplayPort? If so, a USB-C to DisplayPort cable will work and is the preferred option. DisplayPort is native to USB-C, so a USB-C to HDMI cable is actually converting DisplayPort to HDMI.

However, if you absolutely must use HDMI, it might be possible to do so by changing the framebuffer configuration for Index 1 and/or Index 2 from DP to HDMI. No guarantee this will work since I've not tried it myself, but if HDMI is the only option, then it's worth trying. In this case, please post the config.plist from EFI partition of your internal macOS SSD, but remove serial numbers from SMBIOS.

Here is my new config.plist.
