[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

enabled 4G but im not able to boot with NVIDIA getting same issue with Kernel and quickly reboots.
adding ioreg and also clover that export is made from boot from usb EFI
Which monitor are you using? Or is it a flatscreen TV?

I’ll try it but increasingly I feel like I’m wasting your time. Catalina is coming and it might break whatever we accomplish.
Whenever we reach an impasse like this, we do one of 3 things:
  • Process of elimination on existing installation disk.
  • Boot from a bootable backup disk that was created before the sleep problem began. Does sleep/wake continue to work?
  • Reinstall macOS on a spare 256GB SSD. This creates a new baseline with no third-party software or hardware. Test sleep/wake functionality on the new installation.
    • If new install works correctly, then install one third-party app at a time and test sleep.
    • If sleep breaks, stop.
    • If sleep works, install the next app and then the next device.
    • Eventually you'll have a system either with (a) sleep fully working and all apps and devices installed, or (b) sleep not working, but offending app/device identified.

oh and forgot the /Library/Extensions i removed from there all files,
copied into extensions just 2 files with latest updates of WEG and Lilu nothing else

Thank you for all your help and advice. I will consider how much I want to persist with this with Catalina coming. This has been the most fun and successful build that I have done.

I'll check back later.

Cheers

That's awesome! Let me summarize:
  • GC-Titan Ridge plugged into middle long slot.
  • THB_C (Thunderbolt header) cable not connected (Designare does not have the header).
  • Two PCIe power cables at the back of the card also not connected.
  • USB cable connected to F_USB header on motherboard?
  • Two DisplayPort cables from Sapphire RX 580 connected to the two mini-DP inputs on the GC-Titan Ridge.
And consequently:
  • Full 5K display on LG UltraFine 5K monitor. Did you confirm full 5K via AGDP Diagnose utility?
  • Camera, Brightness, and Speakers on the monitor are also working.
    • These might operate over a combination of embedded DisplayPort and USB.
    • Do they continue to work after another restart?
    • And after a full shutdown (with power cable removed)?
  • Does the LG 5K monitor appear under RP05 in IORegistryExplorer?

Your assumptions are almost all correct there.
  • I do not have the USB header on the back of the Titan Ridge AIC connected to the F-USB header. I ordered an internal hub and plan to connect it when that arrives.
  • The AGDP Diagnose output is in my first quoted post and verifies the full 5k res.
  • The monitor does not appear under RP05 on IORegistryExplorer. (See attached screenshot)
  • It seems to survive restarts and sleep just fine. I'll have to try a full cold boot when I get back home this evening.

Edit: added an extra attachment.

The empty RP05 output is curious. Do you have on-board Thunderbolt disabled in BIOS? If so, what happens if you turn it on? Does the LG still work along with camera, brightness, and speakers?

Yes indeed, you are at full 5K!

Thanks very much for this great guide CaseySJ ! I got my third hackintosh up and running on Mojave 10.14.6 with the following components:

Gigabyte Z390 Designare
Intel Core i7-9700K
Radeon Pulse RX 580 - 8GB GPU
32GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400 MT/s(2x16GB)
Samsung 970 Pro - 512GB SSD NVME
Fenvi T919 Wifi/BT
Corsair H80i

I don't have any Thunderbolt devices to test at this time but everything else seems to be working fairly well. I have USB support on all my ports, bluetooth and Wifi with the Fenvi T919, hard drive speeds are super fast, GPU working fine etc. But when I run the CPU test on Geekbench 5 I get the following scores:

GeekBenchScore1.png

GeekBenchScore2.png

I know that GeekBench isn't the end all of benchmarks and I think the system is running fairly snappily, but do those scores seem low compared to others? I looked at the benchmark comparisons and my system seems to be comparable to a much older and slower machine.

Is this something I should be concerned with?

Glad to hear the build itself went well. Those GeekBench 5 numbers are, however, far too low.
  • Is spotlight indexing taking place?
  • Is there any other process consuming large amounts of CPU? (This can be checked from “Activity Monitor”.)
  • Have you tried GeekBench 4 instead?
Because of 2400MHz memory you’ll get a little slower result, but this result is significantly low. So the first course of action is to check whether the CPU is busy with other tasks.

Just checked, it survives a cold boot. Woohoo! I don't know what made it start working since my first post, but it's still going. I had Thunderbolt enabled in the BIOS, but just tried disabling it and the AIC still works. I've also confirmed the USB ports on the back of the LG Ultrafine work as well as the camera, brightness controls, and sound. Neat!

If I find out what the magic sauce is exactly, I'll update this post. For now it seems to be using the AIC in the middle slot (which puts slot one into 8x mode). The build in controller can be enabled or disabled, no difference.

Should I look into updating the thunderbolt SSDT to better support this card and it's ports?

Your configuration seems okay. Because System Parameters --> Inject is set to Yes it means kexts from the CLOVER/kexts/Other folder will always be injected. This is okay for now, but I prefer to install third party kexts in /Library/Extensions and set the Inject option to Detect.

In any case, let's double-check some things:
  • After copying Lilu and WEG to /L/E folder, was Kext Utility run in order to rebuild the kernel cache?
  • Are you using a HDMI 2.0-certified cable? (Not HDMI 1.4 cable.)
  • In BIOS, is Initial Display Output set to IGFX?
  • In BIOS, what is the value of DVMT-Pre Alloc?
The 5 FakeSMC sensor kexts are not currently installed. These can be copied into the CLOVER/kexts/Other folder.
