[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ from your 1st post in this thread

NOTE 5: The Samsung 970 EVO Plus has a known firmware issue that prevents it from working correctly. Avoid the Samsung 970 EVO Plus, but standard 970 EVO and 970 EVO Pro are okay. UPDATE: May 2019: Samsung has issued a firmware update for the EVO Plus that finally fixes the problem. It is necessary to use Samsung's Magician software in Windows to update the firmware.

Just to let you know, you do NOT have to use Samsung's Magician software in Windows to update the firmware. They have instructions on how to create a bootable USB drive with the firmware on and how to update the drive(s). Very easy to do and saves anyone having to install Windows just to update the firmware. See here

Thank you for reminding me. This was mentioned earlier in this thread (here) but I forgot to update the guide. Will do that now...

If your workflow requires you to put the computer to sleep regularly, then lowering memory speed to 2666 MHz can prevent "disk not ejected" errors when sleep is invoked. It can also reduce wake-up time and allow you to remove darkwake completely and still wake with a single keypress.

If your workflow does not require frequent sleep, just keep your memory at its full rated speed.

Sleep doesn´t work on my computer: I click sleep, the machine goes to "sleep", I have a energy meter on the outlet for the computer, computer goes to sleep and consumes 2-3watt, but after about 1 minute in "sleep" the machine starts to consume more power about 50watt and stays like that. But the computer wakes up from "sleep".. I´m using imac 19.1 - with igpu and gpu. Any tips?

Is “Enable Power Nap” checked on in Preferences —> Energy Saver?

@CaseySJ Looks like it works. Also, when I dumped the preboot.log with F2, Clover did view the RAM as it is in reality, not SMBIOS. It was as I expected it to be but it never hurts to verify.

I pretended that I had 8 RAM slots, and that 0 1 2 3 mapped to 4 5 6 7. So I have a 16GB in slots 0 and 2 and a 32GB in slots 1 and 3, so I filled in 16GB for 0 1 2 3, and another 16GB for slots 5 and 7, as if the sticks were double wide connected to an imaginary slot at the bottom of each.

I don't know if any of those positioning matters in the slightest, because I was able to fill all that in and boot with one of the 32GB UDIMMs missing and Mac didn't care and still listed 96GB in About This Mac.

So based off this I see no reason that this method with SMBIOS filled out for 8x16GB properly won't work for a full 128GB. At some point in the future I intend to max it out, but at $150 per stick of RAM I'm pacing myself.

I'm wondering if there is any chance that this isn't working like I think and Mac is only using them to half capacity. I doubt it but you never know. Activity Monitor reports 96GB. I think I'll just spoof a full 128GB and see if that falls for it. I know About This Mac trusts whatever the SMBIOS tells it, and I can lie to it there.

For a more visual explanation. For anyone going full 128GB just fill in 4 and 6 with another 16GB stick, changing the frequency accordingly. I doubt the Vendor/Part/Serial matter but may as well change that.

I set 2667 instead of 2666 because on a real iMac 2019 it reports 2667 in About This Mac and I wanted to match that. I guess it just rounds up as I can see it sometimes hit 2667 in the BIOS.

EDIT: If I spoof 128GB, 32GB more than I have, it shows 128GB in Activity Monitor and CleanMyMac, so it's a widespread effect. I set it back to 96GB to match what I have. Unsure of how I can test if it's being utilized properly.

Other than that I wonder if this is something Clover can fix automatically in the future. A real iMac19,1 already supports 4x32GB configuration as is.

@CODYQX4,

With that post and the clever hackery described within, we promote you to the next level! :) Nicely done.

I know I saw someone post here awhile back that had trouble with 128GB so this should fix them up if their RAM isn't incompatible in any other way and they haven't returned it.

Yes, this is the 64 thousand dollar question. If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know.

In “About this Mac” there is a Memory tab that graphically depicts memory slots. What do you see there?

Ive completed this build, but I have a few issues related to the display. I'm using a 43" 4K TV. In Windows this display works great. I have used it with my MacBook Pro, and it's decent. I scaled the OS down to 1080 and ran some Terminal lines to help with the font rendering. It still bothers my eyes in a short amount of time. Can this be corrected further?

Also, Chrome and youtube via Chrome look poor. Playing video back is decent but the thumbnails are are messed up. If you are playing a video and grab the window to resize, the picture drops out until the window is let go.

Also, I'm noticing some glitchiness with the mouse pointer. I'm using a cheap Logitech wireless combo. I had no issue in Window 10 with this combo.

I don't even have the memory tab. I had it in the past but at some point that I can't recall it's gone. I don't know if it's been gone since I switched to iMacPro1,1 or if it recently disappeared over the past week since I removed 2x16 of RAM.

If I go into system report though I get this:
