[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

They are all 2666 MHz already. That's the max clock speed of each RAM stick installed. Would it be worth trying to lower it below 2666 MHz?
...
Yes it's worth trying. I wish I had all the answers, but I simply don't. :) This is the nature of Hackintosh. We can assemble systems from thousands of different components from hundreds of different manufacturers, so it's always possible that some combination of parts won't work or will require special treatment.

Could someone please explain me shortly what is it all about the discussion lowering the RAM speed? I don't get it...
If your workflow requires you to put the computer to sleep regularly, then lowering memory speed to 2666 MHz can prevent "disk not ejected" errors when sleep is invoked. It can also reduce wake-up time and allow you to remove darkwake completely and still wake with a single keypress.

If your workflow does not require frequent sleep, just keep your memory at its full rated speed.

Yes you can, but plug the Hyper M.2 X4 card into the second long slot (blue box). No BIOS settings needed.

Thanks for the BIOS setting! This will be of great help.
I'm a bit confused with the PCI lane configuration in the manual.
I read it as if we mount the Hyper M.2 on PCIEX16_ slot 2, some USB 3 port speed will be affected.

I'm using a i7 6900K CPU. Do I need to make changes to any setting?

I have started a return at Amazon, but I haven't shipped out yet.

I will try that, and one other thing.

I don't know if I'm interpreting that post right, but perhaps some SMBIOS trickery might make this work.

You're right! That is actually a PCIe 2.0 slot. The M.2 card is plugged into PCIEx16_3 -- third long slot. This is a PCIe 3.0 slot. Original post has been corrected.

Interesting -- hopefully this will fool the system into booting up! They're most likely filling out the section shown below. If you press F2 at the Clover Boot Menu, it will save a log in the CLOVER/misc folder. This log will identify the DIMMs in each slot. You may be able to use that as a starting point for filling out this table.

I had that filled out for 4x16 sticks originally though I didn't actually need it. When I took 2x16GB to put in a different machine I just scrapped that config.

When I get home I'm going to try faking out a 6 slot dual channel system with 6x16GB sticks in it and see what happens. According to what I read the new Mac Pro is going to have 12 slots.

Are you referring to the red USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports (10 Gbps)? If so, what speed are you seeing?

False alarm. I could have sworn I was getting 480 Mbps when I plugged in a USB3 enclosure containing an SSD. But now it looks like I'm getting usual USB speeds listed in 'System Information'.

Thanks again for all your help, CaseySJ!

I discovered a lot of errors like

fsctl error: Inappropriate ioctl for device, using HARDCODED low disk threshold

in my logfile (com.apple.cache_delete). Does anyone knows what this is all about?
