The Apple website simply says 2m Thunderbolt 3 cable included in the box.

@JayShay, have you tried using full 5K resolution (not scaled to 2560x1440)? Text will be tiny, but it would be interesting to see the SwitchResX screenshot. Can you please run the following command in Terminal and upload the file AGDCDiagnose_a.txt from the Documents folder?
Code:
/System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/MacOS/AGDCDiagnose -a > ~/Documents/AGDCDiagnose_a.txt
I think being TB3 cable implies it's 40gbps. TB2 would be 20gbps

This is probably because you don't have enough bandwidth to drive the 5K using a 20gbps cable (TB2 cable I guess?)

Ah, yes and no! :)
  • Thunderbolt 2 uses a mini-DP connector. But it is a 20 Gbps max spec.
  • Thunderbolt 3 uses a USB-C connector.
To meet different price points and different applications, Thunderbolt 3 cables come in different varieties:
  • Short cables (18 inches or less typically) are passive cables (no on-board repeater chips) and much cheaper than longer cables.
  • Longer cables are rated for either 20 Gbps or 40 Gbps.
  • All cables are also rated for the amount of power delivery. Some cables are rated for full 100W power delivery, while others can be capped to 60W or 80W.
The most expensive cables are, of course:
  • Relatively long length
  • Contain on-board chips to maintain signal integrity over long distance ("active" cables)
  • Provide 100W power delivery

@CaseySJ I'm assuming that if as @joevt said running 5120x2880, 938.25 MHz, 10 bpc requires 28.15 Gbps then the LG 5k should come with a 40gbps cable.

So probably not helpful to do tests unless you can do them with a 40gbps cable? (like the one I'm assuming the LG 5k comes with). Maybe @JayShay got the display second hand or something because otherwise it's very weird Apple will do that!

Awesome -- thank you!
  • This is showing DisplayPort 1.2 and HBR2. DisplayPort 1.4 would be HBR3.
  • SwitchResX is showing the same resolution as before: 4096 x 2304 with the same pixel clock of 594 MHz.
Wanna start counting the pixels with a magnifying glass? :)

Yes agreed! We should run these tests with a 40 Gbps TB3 cable.

I checked NAS on my desktop and the dual icons open the same main folder. Also one user only is registered on NAS.

Thanks for the suggestions Casey! :)
Yes my NAS icons open the same main folder. Only single user is registered to nas.
Do you happen to have another Mac or Hack to which you can connect the NAS? And do you see the same behavior?

I tried disabling Trim and the boot time is the same. 1min and 14secs from Gigabyte logo to desktop.
-disablegfxfirmware is already in Boot Arguments. Maybe its normal time. It would be nice a few ppl to share their boot times to compare.
We might be conflating two different root causes:
  • Duration from Gigabyte Logo to Apple Logo is governed by the BIOS and Clover.
  • Duration from Apple Logo to Mojave Login screen is, of course, governed by macOS and the way we configured macOS.
Can you please check these 2 timings individually?

About Fcpx render times are very good. How can I check if igpu is fully loaded while in render. Im watching the clocks from hwmonitor. Yes Im using headless platform ID 0x3E980003.
We can download Intel Power Gadget for macOS and watch the green IGPU line while rendering.

About Kraken X62 i tried twice the guide but Im very amateur with the code and I couldn't follow the procedure correctly.
:) Okay, I'll see what I can do to simplify that.
