[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

@CaseySJ yeah mate, unfortunately it is a strange one.

I cant set the timezone at all, i can change the time manually - but reverts but after restart
(yes i know about the pad lock :) )
If you are using the option Set time zone automatically using current location, then it's necessary to enable Location Services with the 5 steps as shown:

I´ve the same problem like jrebergen. iStat Menus doesn´t show the fans from CPU or graphics card.
I´ve installed VirtualSMC.kext, SMCProcessor.kext and SMCSuperIO.kext to clover/kexts/other folder. VirtualSmc.efi installed to clover/drivers/uefi folder. There are no FakeSMC.kexts on my Hackintosh at all.
What did i wrong?

How and where to install kexts:

Yes, Auto brightness control works perfectly. Just FYI, I also have the new LG Ultrafine 5K monitor (which works with the new iPad as well ) and it works like a charm full 5k, everything works.
The only thing which doesnt work is, the headless mode for iGPU. With Radeon VII I am still getting BruceX 5K numbers of around 8 seconds, so I can live without the iGPU anyways.
Thanks for the info @sidhellman. I'm guessing then that everything works: camera, mic, light sensor, sleep and wake, hotplug, etc.

Also, I'm fine with not having the iGPU working, as long as it only means I just don't get the graphical performance from it and doesn't mean any other functionality won't work on the system. I'm probably going with a RX580 as I don't need the power of the VII.

@CaseySJ should the list of TB3 devices be updated with the 2019 Ultrafine 5k display as well?

@CaseySJ also one last thing. Last year I followed the pastrychef golden build and I loved it, mainly because through an adapter I exchanged the Wifi + BT card that comes with the motherboard with another one that is fully compatible with Apple.

What I loved about this, is that I was getting Magic keyboard support even on the BIOS screens. Is this something we can make on this build? I notice the Wifi + BT slow on this mobo has very low space as it's next to the PCI-e x1 slot. Because I'm assuming going the Fenvi route won't offer kb support on BIOS.

Thanks so much for this awesome guide. I'm finally happy that I'm going to be able to get 5k, automatic brightness and probably building the hackintosh after summer!

@jrebergen @Kalypso478

Fan speed monitoring with iStat Menus is not guaranteed. Out of the three fan connections in my system, only one appears in iStat Menus. However, all three fans appear in HWMonitorSMC 2.4.5. This utility can be downloaded from the bottom of this post:

Yes it should...done.

I seem to recall at least one user's post that Apple's Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse were able to connect during pre-boot (Clover). I tried this once myself, but it did not work. Perhaps a future mouse/keyboard EFI driver will enable this functionality. But if anyone has had success with this, please let us know.

I am increasingly tempted by the new 27" LG UltraFine 5K. But I will wait for Apple's fall event before making that decision because I want to check out the rumored new 16" MacBook Pro! Can't have everything...

Yeah! Actually I'm waiting until the Mac event just in case they release a new and nice looking iMac that offers more than what I can get from the 5k + Hackintosh tower. Otherwise I'm going to do it!

Like @CaseySJ says, the fans can easily be controlled by the BIOS. My Hack has only Noctua's:
Here are my settings:
  • Fan speed control: Manual
  • Fan control use temp input: CPU (for the CPU fan and top fan, the front and rear case fans are set to System 1. Still like to know were the other sensors are and how they are called)
  • Temp interval: 1
  • CPU fan control mode: PWM (Noctua's are 4 pin and so PWN controlled)
  • CPU fan stop: Disabled
1: 30º 20%
2: 40º 30%
3: 50º 50%
4: 60º 70%
5: 70º 100%

My CPU hovers in idle between 30º and 40º, so the fans run at 30% most of the time. If this is stable I will try to push the 20% to 40º. Than the system will be at its most quit.
I've changed the top fan setting to: Fan control use temp input: "System 1" instead of "CPU". Now only the CPU fan ramps up with the CPU temp, the rest is measured at a different point in the case. The system is even more quiet now. Still keeping an eye if the "System 1" sensor is the best one for measuring.

Has anyone had issues with Firefox crashing the whole machine? Whilst browsing the mouse pointer becomes slow laggy, like a memory issue, and then freezes. I have to physically press the off button on the machine, and then on restart sometimes doesn't boot, and have restart again.
