Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe SSD

There is only PEG option, and I already set it to Gen3. All other slots are empty, BTW. So 4 lanes should be there. I will ask Gigabyte to be sure how it works.

It's Intel chipset dependent as well most CPUs have around 22-30 lanes, but X99-299 boards with Xeon based chips can have more. They get used up on WiFi, M.2, SATA, etc and graphics cards generally use the most and take priority. You can research your CPU and mobo to see how many you have and what they allocate for.

Okay I confirmed that second slot x16 (x4 mode) on Z77-DS3H is Gen2. And only first slot is Gen3. The last question is hardware or BIOS defines it ? ;)

PCI-e 2.0 x4 is about half the speed of PCI-e 3.0 x4. So your Blackmagic results are correct.

Both, if you aren’t worried about graphics performance you could try putting it in slot 2 or Gen2 mode and the drive in Gen3 slot and test.

Hi!

I'm facing some trouble with my Samsung 970 Evo SSD in Mojave build. I also use a Samsung 860 Evo in my build which works like expected. The 970 however is very laggy and the write speed is extremely low. The read speed is almost always around 3000 MB/s (but sometimes inconsistent) but the write speed is as low as 4 MB/s... I've seen some solutions of enabling Trim, but this is already enabled on my 970 according to the System Information. Any idea of what the problem might be?

Hello
I have a problem. My system:
High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65)
Clover r4586
Gigabyte Micro ATX (GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5)
Intel Core i7-4790 BX80646I74790
I have 4 drives:
500 SSD
3TB - HDD
4TB - HDD
8TB - HDD

Installed M.2 EVO 500GB SSD.

The first problem is that one of the hard drives is missing. (3TB)
I can see:
500 SSD
M.2 500GB SSD
4TB - HDD
8TB - HDD

I don't see (3TB) it in the system, is there any limit on the number of hard drives?

And the second problem, I checked speed, and it is very low. What could be the problem?

@Pavlichenkoo
From your motherboards specification page:
  1. 1 x M.2 PCIe connector
(Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 SATA & PCIe SSD support)
  2. 1 x SATA Express connector
  3. 6 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors
(M.2, SATA Express, and SATA3 4/5 connectors can only be used one at a time. The SATA3 4/5 connectors will become unavailable when an M.2 SSD is installed.)
  4. Support for RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 10
and probably that port is pcie2.0 x2.

@Ghokun thank you very much

This is really important information. Yes, I changed the ports, and now I see the hard disk
That's what really matters is that the speed is still very low

The MBA 2015 have the same PCI-e x4 with similar BM speed values.
I want to use the 970 EVO in this MBA 11" 2015 with a M.2 adapter running 10.12.6 and only in safe start mode the drive boots / shows up properly. (rehabman patched HackrNVMeFamily kext) In normal start the 970 EVO is there but wrong partition scheme no content available and all attempts to format fail.
How can I force it to work with the kext properly in standard start mode.
A plain new install of Sierra with patched NVMe Kext behaves identical.
(Lots of software I'm running doesn't support High Sierra or Mojave anymore - the 970 EVO runs there without any patching in expected speed.)

Anyone else using a Samsung 970 EVO Pro PCIe for a samples drive? What say you?
APFS, HFS+, or HFS+ encrypted? (ExFat is not an option because many of these samples are very small (i/o penalty) though the sample library is huge).
