Hello kind people,

I've been reading through this site a few weeks now, and i think i will give my own hackintosh a shot.

I have some concerns due to the launch of Intels new Coffee lake architecture.
As some of you have pointed out, these new chips wont be natively supported for quite some time, so that is not my question.
I'm willing to build a system with "older" 7th gen. CPU's if i feel like i will be able to upgrade in the future.
Since Coffee lake chips are not backwards compatible with older chipsets like 270 series, i wonder wether it makes sense to build a z370 system with a compatible CPU now and later upgrade to Coffee Lake or even their new 10nm architecture icelake.

1. Are z370 Chipsets with a 7th gen CPU an option that could work? Are there known builds that use z370 with any CPU?

2. Will the launch of Icelake 10nm in 18/19 Support z370? or will we more likely need new mobo's like its often the case?

3. Any general thoughts ideas regarding this upgradability/Working build tradeoff?

Thanks for any support and contributions :beachball: :beachball:

(1) No, Z370 motherboards are NOT compatible with Kaby Lake (7th generation) CPUs even though the socket is still LGA1151. You can only use Coffee Lake (8th generation) CPUs with them.

(2) Who knows but Intel? If I have to guess, I would say that you probably will need new motherboards for them.
