[Guide] Sierra 10.12.2 on the AsRock Z170 Pro4

Exactly as outlined in the guide. The procedure has not changed.

I'm not using a Nvidia GPU. Have a RX 560. I started over and did a fresh install of Sierra following this guide. I installed from USB. Rebooted back to clover. Attempted to boot from SSD OS is installed on and still get a black screen. Any suggestions?

Get as far as this step:

  • After the reboot, the machine should boot to the Clover menu again. If it says there's no boot device or boots to the wrong thing, reboot and hit F11 from the BIOS splash screen and select the USB drive. At that point you should get the Clover menu. If the Clover menu lets you boot to the new drive, you are actually on step 18 -- so boot to the new drive and continue with step 19. Otherwise, it will not yet offer the option to boot to the new installation. Once again, select Boot Mac OS X from Installer and hit enter.
  • The apple logo should appear and a new progress bar should start.

The new drive I just installed on shows up in Clover screen. I then proceed to apply following fix to avoid black screen at boot.

*For Skylake CPU users if you haven't set up Intel HD 530 graphics fixes try these simple steps to get easy SKL CRB 1536mb graphics with ARBG2101010 30 bit color and metal support. When using a graphics card (supported) the HD 530 glitches are not an issue so you don't need to fix them for premium performance. In Clover boot screen menu set Intel Fake ID to 0x19120003, and below it set ig. to 0a206080. Do not inject Intel, or Intel=false. You can set it permanently using clover configurator or other means later.

BUT I STILL END UP WITH SAME RESULT. BLACK SCREEN after booting from new drive.

I've heard about AMD and Intel gpus being somewhat cumbersome to get to work. Unfortunately I don't have one around so I can't share my experience. The black screen fix from my guide post should still be needed though. You might have more luck with High Sierra which I will make a guide for when the final release version hits the App Store.

If my SMBIOS is showing 14,2 would your fix still work?

The fix I mentioned only applies to SMBIOS imac17,1 or higher. In your case it would be unnecessary. However it is generally adviced to match your SMBIOS to your hardware, so imac17,1 + black screen fix would be more appropriate for your setup.

Sierra 12.6 will have better support for RX 560. If you have IGPU enabled (for AMD cards only) the RX 560 should work.

In older Sierra versions 12.2-12.5 you need to edit the info.pist of 4000-4100kext to get drivers to work. Have you updated to 12.6?

The RX 460 has an ID of 0x67EF1002, the 560 has 0x67FF1002. Try adding fake ID 0x67EF1002 and inject ATI in clover boot menu.

Hi
I hope someone is still reading this.
I have a problem: I can't get to stage 18 of the installation (after managing to make the USB drive, boot into it, erase my ssd and do the first stage of the actual installation). After it reboots, I get to Clover on the USB drive and I don't see any other option (other than the usual external and the windows options).

For reference, I am installing this on an external ssd, with windows in my internal ssd and a Linux install in another external HDD.

Remove the other drives and see if it appears.

Nope, doesn't work. To boot the USB drive I am using "USB Ownership" and "USB Injection" in the PCI devices options and my ssd is also connected via USB3. Can that be a problem?

No it shouldn't be your disk should be recognized, if logged into windows does the disk show up?
