Most exciting thing about that macrumors thread is confirmed eGPU only required login/logout for hot swap, and it works with commonly available TB enclosures.

Well, i use Unreal Engine 4 and when using tons of graphics, i get random black/green/red screen.
is a known bug for rx480 if you google "rx480 random black screen" you will see tons of results.
tho, amd has released a driver witch reduces the power consumption and fixes this bug, but on osx...

If you take a look at Apple's web-site information about the eGPU kit, it has this to say:

Maybe I am reading too much into the quote (or just hoping too much) but it does say Apple knows the kexts for the RX card series need serious work and (here is the hopeful part) they are going to eventually get around to fixing it.

@Jerry2345, I picked up a Gigabyte RX 560 4gb today and tested.

1). Needs 0x67FF1002 added to 9510controllerkext.

2). Needs 6 pin power supply.

3). Up to 7K resolution, if you happen to have one lying around. Maybe a new 9xxx series controller will pop up for it in High Sierra so you don't need the fix. Its nice having the RX 460 there is never an issue for updates and metal.
