Each OS X update will replace the AppleHDA.kext with new one. So after update you have to install your patched AppleHDA.kext again to get the sound.

No, that's the odd thing, after the update, there was NONE in S/L/E.

Why didn't the update put one there? Is that common?

And then I guess Multibeast didn't replace it because there wasn't one there?

I had to fetch one from Backup and put it in S/L/E.

Where can I find out what needs to be tailored in CodecCommander.kext, and how? for an Anniversary Z97, with the ALC887? Or is your sound returning after sleep now, @JeremiahChub?

Don't know why it has not added the new kext for you. For me, it put the newer version of AppleHDA.kext in /S/L/E

And so then, for you, did Multibeast patch it or replace it?
Where did the original, the one that 10.10.3 put there, end up?

I guess since I put a copy of the patched one (269.25-toledaALC887)
it's running, and OK?

How about the sleep issue? Anybody get audio working after sleep
with the Asrock Anniversary and/or the commonplace ALC887?

It seems safest for me to simply not use sleep mode. I had some
unrecoverable screen blanking after sleep with 10.10.3.

Maybe this new hibernate=desktop is to blame?

[later] whoops ... sleep is definitely broken here. It was working fine
w/ 10.10.2, except that audio would be silenced afterwards. Now the
screen just simply stays blank after sleep, no way to control it, and
I have to reboot.
