I tried with this adapter right now and the result is the same, black screen again.

I am not sure whether the converter will work or not. Use DVI/HDMI cable. Then give a try.

Good Luck...!

I tried with HDMI cable and the result is the same.

How do I write =? Which combination of keys do I need to press?

I figured out how to write =

Black screen again.

I typed it correctly.

It doesn't work.

But I noticed something interesting. When I have my monitor connected with HDMI cable Snow Leopard doesn't work too (black screen again, the same as when I try to boot Mountain Lion). Does this mean something?

That may be different issues.

Yosemite can work with HDMI.

Ensure that your graphics card is selected as the primary video adapter in BIOS.

While booting if the screen turning to black then it is an issue of graphics.

Do you have DVI cable to give a try??
