I have found that peripherals, including monitors with USB hub (and USB dongles plugged into the monitor's hub) can keep the system from sleeping. I've been using Mac's for a long time. I always ejected and turned off external peripherals before sleeping the Mac, and I do the same for my Hacks.

However, my hacks are connected to a KVM switch; so, sleeping a system is not feasible since the KVM switch polls systems via the USB connection and wakes up any sleeping system. So, I just shut down a system when I'm not using it.

But, when I build a hack, I test everything on my list in a standalone mode. My Thunderbolt build sleeps/wakes-up in all the modes including scheduled sleep/wake-up. However, I only had the BT USB dongle plugged into the Back Panel in this mode of operation.

What KVM Switch do you use? I'm thinking of using one.

I use several, IOGear KVM DVI/USB switches. I use an IOGear GCS1104 to share two Dell Ultrasharp 24" monitors. This KVM switch only supports sharing one monitor with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200. Since the four systems in this configuration are only using Intel's Integrated Graphics (e.g., no graphics cards), I drive the 2nd monitor using a HDMI switch.

IOGEAR 4-Port DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and 4-USB 2.0, DVI-D KVM Cables GCS1104 (Black) ~$170 USD

HDMI 5x1 5 Port Switch/Switcher with IR Remote Support 3D ~$10 USD

AmazonBasics 2-Pack, High-Speed HDMI Cables 6.5 feet -- Supports Ethernet, 3D, and Audio Return [Newest Standard]

I use an IOGear GCS1644 to share a Dell 27" Ultrasharp U2711 and a HP 24" ZR24W monitors. The 1164 is dual view (switching two monitors inputs) and dual-link (supporting monitors with resolutions up to 2650 x 1600 resolution}. Most of the systems on this switch have graphics cards that support dual monitors driven through dual DVI. (Note: not all graphics cards support dual monitors using two DVI connections.)

IOGEAR 4-Port Dual View Dual-Link DVI KVMP Switch with Audio GCS1644 ~$475 USD

Both IOGear KVM switches work flawlessly and come with a power adapter and 4 cable sets. I've used Belkin KVM switches in the past, but they do not compare in quality to the IOGear KVM switches. The above IOGear KVM switches are make of metal, unlike other manufacturer's KVM switches in the same class.

problem resolution standby with USB 3.0 enabled

installing the bios BETA F12j allowing disabled the USB ports one by one on the motherboard I overview the USB number 3 port was the problem that wont standby

by disabling it also helped make all ports usb bootable allor before that only had USB 2.0 ports with a bootable USB key

the usb port number 3 is the one at the bottom left to the DVI port

must set the mode to ENABLE xHCI, not SMART AUTO or AUTO

http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-beta-bios.html

everything works perfectly now, after three months to find the problem :D:D

Gerard71:

Can you clarify please (sorry if I missed this)?

Are you using the MB 5.4.x Universal USB 3.0 drivers or not in your build?

My issue is that while I have disabled USB port 3 in the BIOS, and Enabled xHCI in the BIOS and am using BIOS version J, my front panel USB 3.0 ports are dead. In fact only my 3 USB 2.0 ports are working.

Advice?

with this method standby works, I am not using GenericUSBXHCI
all rear USB Connector works with USB 2.0
the USB 3.0 internal connector VIA port 2 and 3 work with USB 3.0
these are the two USB 3.0 connector that is in the motherboard
next to the USB 2.0 connector

Do not use USB 3.0 connector port 1 INTERNAL (usb 3.0 Intel)
which is to sata connector
This is for standby functions and USB 3.0 at the same time
I also made a DSDT.aml
http://www.tonymacx86.com/dsdt/99822-gigabyte-dsdt-patch-repository-maciasl-12.html
edit: I also test with GenericUSBXHCI_1.2.3 version, this also works the difference between the two and without the GenericUSBXHCI_1.2.3 usb3.0 does not reactive after standby
http://sourceforge.net/projects/genericusbxhci/files/

while this is not perfect but it is the best solution I've found

Gerard71.

Thank you for the clarification. When I get a chance to change my USB 3.0 to VIA 2 and 3 I will report back with my results.

Thanks again

Sleep/wake-up now works with my KVM switch.

Remove the darkwake=0 in the /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist file with TextEdit...and...BINGO! All the various forms of Sleep/Wake-up now work.

Thanks to fellow Moderator Beelzebozo for discovering this fix.:clap: Works only for Mountain Lion 10.8.4.

Stork, you have had the chance to make it as easy!!
it does not work the same with my I7 3770 unfortunately

I have a KVM that works very well also STARTECH SV215MICDVIA
this is for 2 computers, 1 screen, usb, keyboard, audio, you can put a USB hub on it too

Gerald71,

You recommend F12-J as the BIOS revision for this fix.

However I lose Wake from Sleep with that BIOS revision.

Going back to F12-E gave me back Wake from Sleep.

Having to either disable the sleep in my Hack, or reset if sleep occurs to try get USB ports to work is not a trade I want to make.

I see Stork recommends removing darkwake kernel parameter entirely from org.chameleon.Boot.plist. I admit I didn't try that.

Stork: Are you using F12-J BIOS revision with darkwake removed? What does the kernel default darkwake to when it is removed from the BOOT options?

Nope, I'm using F11. I don't like to "experiment" with Beta BIOS versions.
