Update from 10.8.5 to 10.9.2 worries

Hello, when I built my Hackintosh 10.9.2 was not working so I went back to 10.8.5. I am having problems with freezing screens but everything else seems to work fine, but I wanted to update to 10.9.2.

Is this a smart idea? If so should I just do it with the App Store? Do I have to install new drivers or reformat my drives?
