This was my second hackintosh. The first one was not fully supported. Installation process felt almost native.
I'd like to thank tonymac86x team and everyone in this community for creating this huge knowledge base!
Pre-Installation
Update the motherboard with the latest UEFI BIOS : 2202 (25/09/2014)
Now with BIOS up to date, boot up your machine, hit Delete/F2 on USB keyboard and perform following steps:
Set to Optimized Defaults
Disable VT-d
First GPU : set to PCIE (in the cas you have a PCIE graphic card like me)
Installation
I have followed UniBeast Install OS X Mavericks on Any Supported Intel-based PC as my installation guide ;
On my MacBook Pro :
Downloaded Mavericks 10.9.5
Create the USB UniBeast boot loader
On the build :
Boot with the key : -x (not sure if is it needed but this is what i did)
Installed Mavericks after formatted the drive with HFS+
After the reboot, booted with the UniBeast and chose my SSD directly (don't needed to press -x…)
Post-Installation
MultiBeast Settings:
For 16:10 Full HD monitor you will have to change Graphics Mode in org.chameleon.Boot.plist located in /Extra.
Install TextWrangler, open org.chameleon.Boot.plist This is needed if you want to have max resolution on boot. Your Graphics Mode key/value should look like this :
Code:
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1920x1200x32</string>
The first time I installed Multibeast, I chose System Definition iMac 14,1 but It caused pink artefacts, with freezes when I watch video on internet.. It was solved with the iMac 14,2 system definition.
That's it, everything else works OOB!
Geekbench:
32 bit
Consumption
Has you can see, the power consumption is pretty good. I'm very surprised that this build managed to consume less on OSX than Windows 8.1
Idle (OS X) : 42W
Idle (Windows 8.1) : 55W
Load : +-230W (OCCT PSU burn)
Conclusion
Sleep works well. But after waking up, I loose the sound. To solve that, I bought a USB sound card that worked OOB. No more issue after sleep
This was a very fast and clean install and everything worked pretty much out of the box. I use this machine mainly for video editing, and playing games (on windows 8… ^^). It does much better than my Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo.
Overall I couldn't be any happier with this build.
Thanks again to everyone in this community for making this build possible !
