Comments

This was my second hackintosh. The first one was not fully supported. Installation process felt almost native.
I'd like to thank tonymac86x team and everyone in this community for creating this huge knowledge base!

Pre-Installation

Update the motherboard with the latest UEFI BIOS : 2202 (25/09/2014)

Now with BIOS up to date, boot up your machine, hit Delete/F2 on USB keyboard and perform following steps:

Set to Optimized Defaults
Disable VT-d
First GPU : set to PCIE (in the cas you have a PCIE graphic card like me)

Installation

I have followed UniBeast Install OS X Mavericks on Any Supported Intel-based PC as my installation guide ;
On my MacBook Pro :
Downloaded Mavericks 10.9.5
Create the USB UniBeast boot loader
On the build :
Boot with the key : -x (not sure if is it needed but this is what i did)
Installed Mavericks after formatted the drive with HFS+
After the reboot, booted with the UniBeast and chose my SSD directly (don't needed to press -x…)

Post-Installation

MultiBeast Settings:

105314d1411627552-success-haswell-matx-i7-4790k-asus-z97m-plus-asus-gtx670-2gb-mini-24gb-ddr3-capture-d-ecran-2014-09-24-08.57.02.png

For 16:10 Full HD monitor you will have to change Graphics Mode in org.chameleon.Boot.plist located in /Extra.

Install TextWrangler, open org.chameleon.Boot.plist This is needed if you want to have max resolution on boot. Your Graphics Mode key/value should look like this :

Code:
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1920x1200x32</string>

The first time I installed Multibeast, I chose System Definition iMac 14,1 but It caused pink artefacts, with freezes when I watch video on internet.. It was solved with the iMac 14,2 system definition.

That's it, everything else works OOB!

Geekbench:

32 bit

Consumption

Has you can see, the power consumption is pretty good. I'm very surprised that this build managed to consume less on OSX than Windows 8.1

Idle (OS X) : 42W
Idle (Windows 8.1) : 55W
Load : +-230W (OCCT PSU burn)

Conclusion

attachment.php

Sleep works well. But after waking up, I loose the sound. To solve that, I bought a USB sound card that worked OOB. No more issue after sleep

This was a very fast and clean install and everything worked pretty much out of the box. I use this machine mainly for video editing, and playing games (on windows 8… ^^). It does much better than my Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo.

Overall I couldn't be any happier with this build.
Thanks again to everyone in this community for making this build possible !

Hello, nice build and nice case :)

I builded my "Hackintosh" on similar mainboard Asus Z97M Plus.

http://www.tonymacx86.com/user-buil...i5-4590s-16gb-ati-5670-ultimate-10-9-5-a.html

I have issue with internal network adapter. Transfer rates are very slow, aproximate about 3-4MB/s from/to my network NAS drive. Your network adapter is working good ?

Under Windows 8 everything works well so the adapter should be OK. I don't know what's wrong with in under OSX. I had to use the cheap PCIe Realtek gigabit network adapter for normal transfer rates (about 60MB/s).

Thank's ! Nice build too ;)

No issue with the internal network. Transfer rates are good (+-100MB/s from SSD to SSD Macbook Pro). Maybe you can try a different kext in Multibeast. But I noticed that before installed ethernet kext from Multibeast, my ethernet was already recognized ! I installed directly Mavericks 10.9.5 and didn't perform an update from 10.9.4 to 10.9.5.
Have you checked if OSX ethernet parameters aren't set to 10Mb/s ?

Thank you for answer.

I'm planning to buy another SSD for OSX. Currently is runnig on HDD. Then I'll try to install clean 10.9.5 with latest Multibeast... maybe final Yosemite release will be available :)

Afrer 10.9.4 I installed previous Multibeast version. Maybe kext was not correct or what. Many times I checked LAN settings... keep automatic (not successful), set manual 1000T (not successful). With PCIe Realtek LAN eveything is OK... but this is not final solution, only temporary.

I have to release PCIe slot for new Sound Card. My old PCI Creative Audigy 2 ZS is not working as I expect... I can't tune sound via Soundflower/AU lab. Works only few minutes before sound begin to distortion. The default sound is too flat.

Thank's ! Nice build too ;)

Hello. Thank you for the guide - all done. Even without commands at boot. But There are 3 issues - 1. sleep mode and no sound. 2. MAC hangs, approximately every 10 hours of operation, or when inserting a USB flash drive (USB 2 or 3 ) is a 50/50 chance... 3. long download time (but maybe it's not a problem))). The main problem of course with USB stick ... Like your Mac with these nuances?

Alout,
Haswell processor/chipsets have tighter specifications than previous Intel processors and chipsets. Your freezing could be related to your memory and PSU. Make sure your memory is on the "certified" list for the ASUS Z97M-Plus motherboard (see ASUS web site on the Z79M-Plus motherboard page. Likewise, make sure your PSU is Haswell "certified" or "ready".

Well done on a very nice build

I really like your choice of case because it actually looks as simple as something Apple might produce themselves.

Getting such a powerful CPU and its huge cooler in there is Impressive!

:)

Hi Stork :D

I actually chose the same motherboard for my build and it turns out that crucial isn't on their certified vendor list: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/Z97M-PLUS/Z97M-PLUS_Memory_QVL.PDF

except some 4GB DDR3 1866 RAM sticks.

So I guess I should buy 1600MHz RAM that is actually on that list?

Am I free to choose or are there certain RAM manufacturers recommended for hackintoshs?

Thanks in advance.

Your system components should be chosen for your system's use. For most people, the 1600MHz memory is sufficient. However, if you are a gamer who overclocks, you'll probably want to get >1600MHz memory; then chose it off of the above ASUS Z97M-PLUS memory list.

Just wanted to update that I have almost identical as your system. I've been struggling for the past 2 weeks just tried to make it work. Finally, i got everything working. Really happy! Couple things different from yours were:
1. Bios updated to 2305
2. AMD/ATI Graphic Card HD 5770 1GB
3. For Sound card on this particular motherboard Z97mPLus, i selected
Drivers>Audio>Realtek ALCxxx>ALC888 Current v100302. It worked!

Much appreciated your help and others in this community.
