[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

What are the general feelings around SONOMA for the moment on this thread
Some people love it, some hate it and are downgrading. Support for Broadcom Wifi has been removed. The amount of patching to make it work again is fairly large. Mostly a matter of making a backup of Ventura then giving Sonoma a try to see how it goes on your system.

I usually upgrade after Xmas, patching is my Holiday Special Gift to myself.
I hope there will be a fix for the Broadcom Wifi or that the intel Wifi is reliable on Sonoma.
Thanks for the feedback.

Intel Wi-Fi is working great for me!.

As far as I know:
  • Linux VMs support PCI passthrough.
  • MacOS VMs do not support PCI passthrough.
  • Most Threadripper-based Hackintoshes are actually setup as follows:
    • Host OS is Linux running ProxMox
    • MacOS is then a Guest OS under ProxMox
    • ProxMox supports passthrough, which allows macOS to run at near-native speed
@Ploddles, feel free to comment on this.

P.S. The Rules do not permit the discussion of VMs other than VMware Fusion. But we can answer the original question in simple terms and move on.
Where are these rules and why cant we talk about other solutions on the platform?

Thanks, everybody who advised. I've ordered a Sapphire RX-6600 from the link in the buyer's guide. I will now try to gather patches, such as a low-power option like I have for the RX-580.

Need some BIOS upgrade advice here.

Running Z390 + core i9 + RX580 (iMac 2019)
Bios F6
OS: Monterey 12.7
OC: 0.83
Fenvi Card for Wifi/BT

Everything is working & stable & the plan is to go to Ventura or Sonoma in Dec.
Update BIOS now & OC to 0.9.5 next week & stick to Monterey 12.7 for a month or so.

Now, there appear to be 2 different versions of the BIOS:
F9g (beta) on here
F9i on here + patches

F9j on Gigabytes website
F9 on Gigabytes website (I'm assuming this is called F9i above, since they changed the naming convention)

What is my safest or best option here ? F9g or F9i + patches
The bios will be updated first & the system will remain on updated bios + OC 0.8.3 for a while

I'm using the original, unmodified F9i.

I would also recommend original F9i.

Thank you both @jiffyslot and @CaseySJ

Downloaded F9i from here (page #2914)
Looks like CFG_LOCK is enabled by default. I'm reading Dortania's guide.
If there is an easier way in the Bios itself, please let me know.
Internet is spotty this morning (probably due to outages) so will follow up on this in the afternoon
