Ha, wouldn't that just be ridiculous
I am as positive as I can possibly be that I am booting from the config.plist in the EFI partition of my Mojave instance. There is no USB connected to the machine. There is one copy of the EFI folder, in a 'Success!!' directory on the desktop. This backup contains exactly the same EFI contents as the actual EFI partition. I'm using Clover Configurator to mount the EFI. Then opening the EFI/CLOVER/config.plist file.
Is there some way to reset/refresh something in case the old values are cached somewhere?
