Stuck installing Mavericks on Sony Vaio SVF15328CXW

Not open for further replies.
So after the installation finished I am unable to boot into the newly installed system. Using the same bootflags (IntelAzulFB=12 GraphicsEnabler=Yes dart=0 -v -f SkipNvidiaGfx=Yes maxmem=4096) I get an automatic reboot after a while of loading kexts.
I've tried a couple of combinations of bootflags without success. Because it just reboots I'm unable to tell where it fails and what the error is.

I tried booting back into the USB installer and opened a Terminal. I checked for meaningful information from log files on the mac partition. /var/log/install.log looks fine but I can't find any diagnostic info of what went wrong when booting.

Any ideas?

Your mach_kernel on your HDD is now vanilla. You must copy patched version.

Thanks, that did the trick. I now finished the Mavericks installation and arrived at the point where I have to use MultiBeast. It seems like the Quick Start items are focused on desktop computers, so not sure what to pick here. Any advice or is it a matter of trial and error?

I also notice the graphics are off. I'm seeing some weird patterns at the top of the screen appear and disappear. Probably the graphics driver?

Also following the Vanilla install guide after installing Chameleon to the OS X partition and trying to boot I'm getting:

boot0: GPT
boot0: test
boot0: test
boot0: GPT
boot0: test
boot0: test
boot0: error

I think this means I still have to convert the partition from GPT to MBR, right? How would I do that?

Thanks.

Edit:

As for the booting problem I found this already: http://www.tonymacx86.com/25-boot0-error-official-guide.html

Did you activate HD4400 QE/CI? You need Chameleon and IntelAzulFB=12 GraphicsEnabler=Y. Also, you should set your "Graphics Mode" to your resolution (not listed in your profile).

No. It means you have a 4k/AF disk. See: http://www.tonymacx86.com/25-boot0-error-official-guide.html

Awesome thanks. I followed those steps and installed the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext.
I also used the ProBook Installer to install the SSDT. I also installed the VoodooHD and ACPI-Battery-Driver kexts.

I edited my chameleon boot plist. After that it boots like a charm. The graphics problem is gone and the sound works.

Some problems I see right now are:
  • I do see the battery icon in the menubar but it says "No Battery Available" and it doesn't seem to be working.
  • The trackpad works, but the trackpad buttons don't. I can't click stuff.
  • I can't seem to control the screen brightness.

I think I have to do DSDT patching for that from what I've read in other threads. I found your project on Github: https://github.com/RehabMan/Laptop-DSDT-Patch
Just not sure how to apply those patches (completely new to this), but I'll read up on that first.

This has been fixed now by using the first solution.

Battery status: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks-laptop-support/116102-how-patch-dsdt-working-battery-status.html

You might try installing just ACPIBacklight.kext. If your OEM DSDT methods for backlight work (they are not always functional), then you should get a working slider in SysPrefs->Displays... https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-ACPI-Backlight.

For trackpad, which trackpad is in the laptop?

That looks kinda tricky to do, but I'll look into it.

I installed the kext but no luck.

I'm not sure. The official specs of the laptop don't give it away. In dmesg I see VoodooPS2Trackpad: Synaptics Touchpad v8.1
It's one of those fancy ones that supports gestures and stuff. I do see it in SysPrefs -> Trackpad, but clicking doesn't work.

The Wifi is a Broadcom BCM43142. Any way to get that to work?
Both the ethernet adapter and wifi aren't working.

Do have a slider in SysPrefs->Displays? Requires basic DSDT "Brightness Fix" patch. https://github.com/RehabMan/Laptop-DSDT-Patch

Not supported. Compatible chipsets and the procedures for making them work are covered here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/network/104850-guide-airport-pcie-half-mini-v2.html

I didn't have the slider, but after applying your 2.11 Brightness fix for Haswell I do. However the slider doesn't have any effect on the actual brightness.

I attached the IOReg export of the system. It shows something like ApplePS2SynapticsTouchpad. That's probably because of the driver I installed with MultiBeast (I chose the PS/2 Keyboard/Mice and Trackpads driver there).
I also found this driver, so I may try that one instead: http://forum.osxlatitude.com/index.php?/topic/1948-elan-touchpad-driver-mac-os-x/

Okay thanks I'll go for a USB one then.

Haswell Brightness Fix:
DSDT Patches from here: https://github.com/RehabMan/Laptop-DSDT-Patch

Apply:
"Rename GFX0 to IGPU"
"Brightness Fix (Haswell)"
- rename patch must be done first and to all DSDT/SSDT that contain references to GFX0 that you're including in your final SSDT set
- Brightness patch must be done to the DSDT or SSDT that contains the definition for Device GFX0 (search for 'Device (GFX0)'
- Place DSDT and SSDT (if necessary) into a place where the bootloader will load them. For Clover, EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched (DSDT.aml, SSDT-x.aml where 'x' is a number). For Chameleon, /Extra/ssdt.aml, /Exra/ssdt-1.aml, /Extra/ssdt-2.aml, etc.

You have Synaptics. Do not install a driver for Elan. Software/drivers/kexts must always match your hardware.

See here: https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Voodoo-PS2-Controller

Note: Looking at your ioreg, power management is not implemented correctly. See: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...nagement-sandy-bridge-ivy-bridge-laptops.html

Haswell is similar to Ivy, except you should use a Haswell-appropriate smbios and there is no need to patch AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext.

I just removed the Elan driver again and installed the Voodo PS2 driver. I see it is being loaded but still the buttons aren't working.

sudo dmesg |grep Voodoo gives me:
VoodooPS2SynapticsTouchPad loaded
VoodooPS2Trackpad: Synaptics TouchPad v8.1

Actually while typing this I checked the system.log and noticed some messages complaining about failing to load the driver because of a missing dependency. So I re-ran Multibeast and reinstalled the PS2 drivers. After a reboot your driver does load and the buttons on the trackpad are working. Nice! Thanks again.

Next up are the brightness fix, the power management fix and trying to get the Realtek ethernet adapter to work. It should be an RTL 8111 so I'm gonna try your driver for that first.

To be continued.
