[SOLVED] The Dreaded Asus Z10PE-D8 WS

Replacement board is fitted and working, it will quiet happily run a live Linux DVD so now i have to try the cards again and still luck so far. These are the graphics cards I have here, which do you think should be the simplest to get working with SL 10.6.3 ?

  • ATi Radeon 2600 XT*
  • Nvidia Quadro FX580
  • Nvidia Geforce 8800GT*
  • Sapphire Ati Radeon R9 285 Dual X OC
  • Onboard ASpeed AST2400 32Mb 1900x1200
* are true Mac Pro graphics cards

I have tried a number of boot flags and none seem to be able to get to the install screen, so i am all ears and eyes for any pointers, tips or help etc.

The 8800GT would be the easiest to get working in SL followed by the 2600XT. You can forget the onboard ASpeed and the R9 285 in SL - no support at all. Not sure about the Quadro card.
 
Stuck with Clover and Snow Leopard DVD ...

The 8800GT is definitely the favoured graphics card, but it's getting as far as the installation screen where it then changes from white screen with spinning wheel to plain white, then goes to a lovely blue colour, then back to white, then back to the same blue and then it gently fades away to grey.

The mouse pointer is visible and looking at that it looks as if the screen resolution has been adjusted to 1920x1080 - It stays at that screen for an age, if i press a key or click any mouse button the mouse pointer changes to a beachball and stays like that until i power off or hit reset.

I have been reading on here that i need to use the custom mach_kernel from the iBoot Broadwell boot disc and need to add it to clover boot loader, but I can't find how to add it so any pointers with that would be cool too.

Attach config.plist.

Config looks fine except you are booting in 32bit not 64bit. I think the 8800GT uses 64bit kexts.

Am I ? - I never even noticed that .... Well lets see if that's the issue :)

Yep. Remove Arch 86_64 its not needed.

Incorrect.
arch=x86_64 forces 64 bit boot in Snow Leopard. Default SL boot is 32 bit.
8800GT will work either 32 bit or 64bit. It was, after all, an Apple supported GPU for the MacPro1,1.

Im sure that Arch=x86_64 forces OS X to boot between 32bit and 64bit but its not really needed on Intel CPUs tho is it.
