Problem after updating to 10.8.5

Upgraded to 10.8.5, attached is a screenshot of my ioreg, mobo = MSI G41M-P25 LGA 775 Intel G41 Micro ATX Intel, ALC889 audio shows up, but everything seems to be muted. No sound. My pin configurations do not seem to line up with the troubleshooting walkthrough, is this because the sample screenshot is for 898? I am using HDAEnabler1, 6 port sound on back. Please advise, thanks.

sorry for replying so late, been AFK due to family celebration.

AppleHDA.kext did not load.
Need a screenshot of About This Mac/..../System Information/Software/Extensions - Select AppleHDA.kext

I only find information for "AppleHDAController" (Screenshot enclosed).

1. Remove S/L/E/GenericUSBXHCI.kext
2. Boot with UseKernelCache=No or Without Cache. If audio, problem solved
3. Run 10.8.5 Software Update, do not install audio, restart. Verify native audio: System Information/Software/Extensions/AppleHDA. If AppleHDA, install MB/audio, restart. If audio, problem solved.
4. Restore 10.8.4 backup, remove S/L/E/GenericUSBXHCI.kext, goto Step 3.

Reply with results and IOReg, if no audio.

1. I removed S/L/E/GenericUSBXHCI.kext before installing the update, having read it caused hiccups for some users.

2. No audio, IOreg enclosed (skidman_usekernelcache=no_no audio)

Will try 3. and 4. tomorrow.

This is the EXACT SAME issue I am having with the exact same board. However, I am on the UEFI version of this board.

Maybe we do not only share the same board. KW? Yes or no?

Me too. No sound on 889
My solution: Full rollback to 10.8.4
Then:

launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.notificationcenterui.plist

to stop the BS update message center. Never used the damn thing ever anyway. That's what my phone is for.

And and and... Thanks for universal USB3!!!!!!!

No AppleHDA.kext solution. Try Voodoo.

Dear Toleda,

reporting problem:

1. no sound after applying combo 10.8.5. After applying your patch the AppleHDA.kext won't even get loaded. It is possible to load it afterward with kextload, but there is no difference. After reboot no AppleHDA.kext
2. 10.8.5/ga-z68x-ud5-b3/F10/i2600k/2*geforce 570
3. used the -85 patch on the AppleHDA.kext(2.4.7fc2)/your guide/2.4.7fc2
4. /Extra/DSDT.aml patched with your guide with audioID:1 as seen on the screenshot below
5. complete output of `ioreg -lx` looking for something specific, please tell me
6. I have only one line after reboot with "grep sound": kernel[0]: Sound assertion in AppleHDAController at line 504
7. Screenshot of System Information/Hardware/Audio/Intel High Definition Audio (not Devices)

hi, same here.
and nothing of the solutions described here worked for me! no more audio...
applehda.kext not load at startup; load only the applehdacontroller.
tried to kextloadit manually, change chmod chown... but nothing to do!
My ioreg in attached, thx

Same problem here, on Gigabyte Z77x-UD5H (alc 898).
I tried DSDT and Enabler1.kext, patched appleHDA.kext according to toleda's instructions, but no way I can get it to load.
seems like 10.8.5 doesn't like the new applehda.kext.

I found a new appleHDA.kext on osx86.net for ALC889 on 10.8.5
I had to edit my dsdt to make it work. (look at osx86.net for edits)
Sound is now ok input and output working

No joy for me. Kext does not load. Still no IOHDACodecDevice in IOReg.
