Hi! First of all I'd like to greatly thank
@pastrychef for this guide. It is amazing. Also the EFI folder, everything...
I edit video for a living, and my 2014 5K Retina iMac was dying fast. It's been working 24/7 for the past 4 years (8-10h of export + 6-8h of transcode + 4-6 of editing) and now it can't do much without crashing, overheating, etc.
I didn't wanna pay for 2013 hardware (current Mac Pro) and don't need a screen (iMac Pro), so I jumped to the Hackintosh world and built a very similar PC to yours, although I got the Z370-E instead of the -G (i wanted large ATX).
I got some problems which I solved (will post anyways because someone might run into them), and some others that are still present and maybe you guys can help me out:
1. [SOLVED] If I didn't disable Launch CSM in BIOS, I couldn't use Clover whatsoever. It was there, but I could only see a small grey rectangle, everything was out of sight (2K monitor).
2. [SOLVED]Since you said that clover fixed ram sticks being in A2/B2 I did that... but it didn't work. I had to remove the second fan of my Noctua in order to remove one stick and finally install macOS, since it wouldn't past the apple logo with both sticks. After full installation I tried to put the other stick back in, but wouldn't work. I had to put both in A1/B1.
3. [SOLVED] My Samsung 970 Evo was performing pretty poor. It was only hitting 1500MB/s both W/R. After digging around I found that the BIOS was limiting its bandwith to x2. I switched to x4 (at the cost of losing SATA 5 and 6) and now it's full speed.
4. [help!] My boot time is super long. I mean full 40 - 45 seconds. Considering the 970 Evo... it should be like what... 5 seconds tops? See attached video: Loading bar goes pretty fast up to 50%; then it slows down a lot until 75% more or less where the screen goes black for 1 second; and then speeds up to load the rest pretty fast again.
5. [help!] I wasn't able to perform the iMessage fix correctly. Is it still valid? Is iMessage the only thing that I lose if I don't manage to get it done?
6. [help!] USB Fix... well, that looks super hard. This is my first Hackintosh and I don't even know how you edit some things in clover. What is that UI in which you edit stuff? If I can't understand that... I'm not sure I'd be able to make those files you mention and use them... Also I read the reason why the 15 port limit patch isn't good enough, but can't reallt understand it (sorry english isn't my first languange, specially for technical stuff).
7. [help!] How do I completely disable system updates? I don't usually have much time, and if I'm not mistaken the OS updates some stuff by itself, am I wrong?
8. [advice] Do you recommend OC? I got your same RAM which should be able to run at 3200MHz but according to BIOS it's running at 2133MHz. Also my CPU is at stock. I guess I'd take a lot of advantage when editing, but I don't want an unstable system. (I mounted a Noctua NH-D15 with one fan, because I had to unmount the second one in order to move the ram sticks and can't put it back in due to the super large Vega 64).
9. [question] Has the Vega fan issue gone away? I ask because I don't think it was at full speed at any time, although it's true the system has a fresh install, I haven't loaded FCPX or anything just yet.
Thank you all very much!
P.S: Attached the video as .zip because the forums wouldn't let me post a link to YT. Also, it didn't let me upload the .mp4 because of an invalid extension.
