No Sound - Realtek ALC AppleHDA [Guide]

Is it so impossible though that there might be an issue with the new z270 chipset / board?
No.
it's just the cause and effect thing that makes me wonder.
You are the cause.
The scripts exist to remove user error.
The only way a kext is pristine is a fresh install. Software Update installs files, not kexts.

KP is caused by IOGraphicsFamily (backlight controller)
When the KP is resolved, Set Audio ID: 1
Reply with new files.

ok, gave this another try.
downloaded current macOS installer, installed prestine kexts.
KP resolved.
Installed Patch using only audio_cloverALC-120_v1.0d.command, nothing else.
Audio ID set to 1.
Problem persists, new files attached.

Thanks!

  • Description of audio problem
Sound goes out intermittently after an upgrade from 10.11 to 10.12 - can’t seem to pin it to sleep/wake or other behaviour. Rebooting fixes the issue, however I’m hoping something seems obvious from the diagnostics below.
  • OS X version/motherboard model/BIOS version/processor/graphics
OS X 10.12.3, GA-Z97X-UD3H, F6 BIOS, i7-4790K, Nvidia GTX 760
  • Procedure/Guide Used
  • Terminal Saved Output (if Terminal script run)
Used cloverALC script, see .ZIP file for output.
  • Copy of IOReg (Tools 1.1) or IOJones (Tools 1.2)
See .ZIP file for IOReg output
  • System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext (10.11/hidden)
  • System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDAxxx.kext (if installed)
Saved AppleHDA.kext to .ZIP file; no other AppleHDA kext’s on S/L/E or L/E
  • Console/All Messages/kernel Sound Assertions - select/Save Selection As:
There were no kernel Sound Assertions
  • Screen shots:
All 3 in .ZIP file and labelled as such.
  • Clover (if installed)
Config.plist and boot log in .ZIP
  • Speakers and/or microphone
Logitech THX speakers connected to green port on motherboard, selected second Line Out device (per png file in .ZIP)

If the problem is not sound, IOReg shows no audio playing.
See Post #1/I. No Sound/1. Audio Outputs/1 Speakers
Run the experiment and attach new IOReg

as i said earlier, i can't play any media that includes audio. i press the play button, but it doesn't respond (tested: Quicktime, iTunes, YouTube). i checked the console, this is what shows up:

Code:
default 14:41:29.093161 +0100 coreaudiod HALS_IOA1Engine.cpp:221:_StartIO: HALS_IOA1Engine::_StartIO: the call to the driver failed, Error: 0xE00002D8
default 14:41:29.093273 +0100 coreaudiod HALS_IOContext.cpp:1578:IOWorkLoop: HALS_IOContext::StartIO: failed to start the hardware
default 14:41:29.093317 +0100 coreaudiod <Missing Description>

i attached the full log that appeared (including lots of "Sound assertion in AppleHDAEngine" messages), but probably those ones are the crucial ones.

VLC lets me play a mp3 (probably because it operates independent from os libraries) but it shows a similar error in console:
Code:
default 14:46:40.794615 +0100 VLC HALC_ProxyIOContext.cpp:958:IOWorkLoop: HALC_ProxyIOContext::IOWorkLoop: the server failed to start, Error: 0xE00002D8

to be sure i attached a current ioreg while vlc pretends to play a file.

Result, no sound; try Internal Speakers <> green port

I selected Internal Speakers and used the green port - result is no audio. I went back to the black port and second Line Out and I have audio again.

The trouble is that it's intermittent - I believe it's related to sleep/wake, however sometimes audio works after waking. Did the logs and IOReg output look good to you?

Many thanks!

Intermittent is not related to wake/sleep. Off topic.
Verify config.plist/CPU has no frequency settings and UseARTFrequency/NO
