See Post #1, 3. Front Panel

Native AppleHDA.kext only supports motherboard optical digital output. To use the motherboard SPDIF header, significant edits required; see
Customization.pdf/Procedure 7. Substitute SPDIF - 2 Wire Output

3 is not valid for your system. Choices:
1: 2 inputs and 1 output
2: 0 inputs and 3 outputs (analog 5.1)

Many thanks for the pointers. I'll double check the wiring connections for the front panel. I know that the front headphone socket was working when I had the machine booting off the install USB so I'm pretty sure it is wired into the motherboard correctly, but you never know.

The customisation guide to enable SPDIF output looks very clear, if a little complex, so I'll certainly have a go at that.

Otherwise I guess I'll stick with audio ID 1, and move on to trying to get the sound working on my HDMI and DP monitors.

Thanks again.

  1. Audio outputs exists in sys preferences but when I goto play videos or songs in Spotify, the player sits on the beginning of the song or says ‘can’t play song’. Don't know if it's a line out issue or what.

Thanks for the swift reply. Unfortunately I changed to internal speakers and it's still not working.

What port are the speakers connected?
IOReg does not show any audio playing, how do you verify sound?
See Post #1

Speakers are still connected to green port. Pulled out speakers and plugged them back in and got audio feedback. I can't verify if sound is playing because my Spotify and YouTube refuse to do any playback for me (which may be a bigger issue?).

Are Spotify and YouTube native? Neither shows in the attached IOReg.
2nd request, see Post #1/I. No Sound/1. Audio Outputs/1. Speakers

Valid point? How do you test native sound in that case? You want to see all the files from problem reporting? If so, I've attached everything that I think you need.
