I have a few questions as for what hardware to choose, because I have a tendency to go overkill..
This is what the machine will be used for:
-OS X Multi tasking, i do a lot at once, web browsing, youtube, netflix, HD content fromn HDD, itunes etc..
-Occasional video encoding - adding blu ray movies and tv shows to my digital library.
-Occasional photo editing in gimp.
-Dual Boot with Windows 7/10 for older to semi new games - not new games, as i prefer my playstation for that.
Criteria for the machine:
-A really snappy user experience in OS X
-Older windows games with the settings ramped up, also Crysis at 1080p with more than 20 fps....
-Low temperatures with low silence - the low temps is due to my obsession with over engineering, and noise because my old macbook runs the fan at full throttle to keep itself from getting to hot driving a external monitor.
-Future proof - so i dont's have to go out and upgrade for a loong time.
-4k monitor and movie support when the moneys there for one of those monitors.
So the questions:
-Cpu, I'm stuck between the 4790k and the 4690k. Besides the 4790k's edge in clock speed, will i7's hyper threading make any difference in daily use? I know it will with video encoding, but that's occasional.
And can Yosemite utilize hyper threading well?
I'm also not a experienced overclocker and therefore i see the potential in the higher clock speed of the i7, and then just let it auto boost for games if it's necessary. But on the other hand the i5 should be able to be overclocked to 4 Ghz without to much hassle? If the i7's hyper threading isn't worth it.
But would the i7 be overkill for my demands?
As for cooling I'l be using a cooler master nepton 240 liquid cooling system for cool temps and decently low noise.
-Gpu
I'm looking at the Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming, mostly for the windforce cooler which keeps it silent and cold even under heavy load. But is a Gtx 970 overkill for my demands? It surely can support a 4k monitor, possible 2 if it's what i decide on. I'm a little worried about overkill here.
But surely it would do wonders for when i game in windows, or video & photo editing.
-Is gigabyte motherboards still the most hassle free motherboards, or is the Asus Rog boards just as easy to setup? This is mostly aesthetics. But the Asus boards should be really easy to overclock with.
-As for the rest I'l be using a samsung 850 evo ssd, 32 gb ram etc.
I hope you have some answers
