microphones not recognized

Hey guys, I built my hackintosh computer 2 months ago... it works great and is very stable with almost no flaws to report. However, it seems that my computer will only pick up external audio output devices like ear pods, but not external microphones. I can plug in my earpods and have the audio seamlessly play through them instead, but no microphone is detected at all. Nothing comes up in sound settings under the input tab. I have a UEFI motherboard so I never used any kexts. All other sound works just fine. thanks for the help!

Hover your mouse cursor over your name (just below the search box) and select settings from the pop up menu.
