The environment was totally different in 2005. Apple had the serious urgency to ditch PowerPC, as G5 was weaker and hotter than expectations, and Power Mac G5 was leaking liquids terribly. Apple took just one and a half years to replace all PowerPC-based Macs with Intel-based ones. PowerPC platform also gave up on the consumer market.
It’s been two years after WWDC 2020 and Intel-based Mac mini and Mac Pro models are still available now. Apple has no urgent needs to accelerate the transition, as we know that Apple silicon may be better in some areas, but the competitors are not weak at all.
