@slammyman: No way to use it without Thunderbolt.
Hi I Have a Gigabyte x99 ultra gaming mother board and a GTX 1080 ti. But when the 5K screen is enabled the system becomes kind of laggy and unresponsive, and that is crazy annoying.
Are you saying that you have two dual display port passthrough cables connected from your GTX 1080 Ti to the Alpine Ridge card? And that the monitor is correctly receiving a 5K signal from the TB3 port on the Alpine Ridge?Hi, I actually have two 1080 ti's, so I tried taking out one of the cards and then inserting the Alpine Ridge ridge card in the 16x slot where the second 1080 card was before, and now the system works much better. I'm able to boot directly into macOS with only the 5K ultrafine monitor attached and the system is responsive and doesn't hang often as before. It's, however, still not perfect, as I don't have monitor control, usb hub, speakers and webcam. And also the mouse cursor sometimes changes to the wrong cursor e.g. resize although it still functions fine as an arrow.

So this Addon card does not work with the Z170X Designare board. I have it on the most "top" PCIE with the cable going to the TB 5pin. followed the instructions for the "Thunderbolt FW Update Tool" and still no go.
Have you tried other PCIE slots? It clearly states on the website it is PCIEX4 only.
Have you updated BIOS?ya it was in my x4 slot, btw I forgot to state that I was trying to get this to work with Windows 10 before getting it to work with Sierra
