I installed Pacifist, downloaded a iTunes 11.0.1 dmg, and wrote over the entire iTunes installation and frameworks with it. HD purchased content now working.

This tip works on Ivy Bridge up through ML 10.8.5. Upgrading past iTunes 11.0.1 will break the system. Haswell will break the system too.

I'm working on this issue as well. (Mac OS 10.8.4, iTunes 11.1.1)

No purchased (protected) .m4v files will play, just goes to a black screen. All video I've ripped to the library myself plays fine.

Setting 32 bit mode doesn't fix it for me. De-authorizing and re-authorizing doesn't fix it. Repairing permissions doesn't fix it. About to attempt upgrade to Mavericks, as I've been all over the forums and am out of ideas.

Successfully upgraded to OS 10.9 (just follow the Unibeast method posted on the main page) but it didn't fix the problem. All purchased (protected) videos in iTunes won't play, just show a black screen.
