[GUIDE] OC Monterey Z490 Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme + Core i5 10500 / i9 10900K

@rkpz81 For the wifi card, do not despair, I think the onboard Wifi/BT module might be fully operational in the future.

Depending on what you want to do, there are also Z690 builds that seem quite promising, with maybe more available parts. I don't know how it is where you are in the world, but here the z490 xtreme has become a rarety. I can sell it now used for more than what I bought it for...

If you ned to work on a USB map, I opened this thread some time ago.

l already ready had your USB mapping thread bookmarked but thanks! As for the Z490 Xtreme, those are also rare here (even used). The board I have I got it as a present a while back.
In your previous reply you mentioned that an Apple WiFi card will only work in PCIE slot 1 (needing to move the graphics card to PCIE2), is this because the WiFi card is only detected if the PCIE slot goes directly to the CPU? (hope it'S not a dumb question). Also, does this happen with all compatible cards? I can still get a Fenvi T919 without waiting a long time for it.

Actually no one, even the Gigabyte support could find an answer to the PCIe slot dilemma, all the slots should work the same, providing proper Bios configuration. Gigabyte even told me to return it to the seller, which I can't because they need a +21 work days to check if the board is faulty or not, and that board is my workstation : no motherboard = no food. I have a few pointers though :

  • I use an Apple original card plugged into the PCIe slot via an adapter. The adapter is not faulty, but maybe there is a incompatibility of some kind with PCIe slots #2 and #3.
  • I have a new adapter and a new Apple original card coming end of March (takes about 2 months from China to Europe), maybe it will work better.
  • I have purchased an new PSU (ATX3 compliant) to be 100% sure it was not an electrical problem = no change.
  • I have not tested a Fenvi, so maybe it works better (considering the price, you could take the bet without being too much hurt).
  • Any other PCIe card I tested in the slot #2 works perfectly.
  • Keep in mind that Gigabyte blacklists non-intel wifi cards in the CNVI port, so no solution on this side.
  • Honestly if you don't need Bluetooth, just use the onboard Wifi, enable Airportitlwm.kext and disable itlwm.kext. These drivers are getting better and better every version. New version is due soon I think, and I bet it will be great.
As a side note, if you migrate your OS (Monterey +) to a new drive by cloning, I noticed that Apple SIP must be enabled, otherwise some apps will crash on startup, no matter if you reinstall them. This problem made me insane for a few days at the beginning.

Post your results when you can, I'm quite curious to see how it turns out.

There is a very detailed z690 proart by CaseySJ. Some people in the (very long) thread have modified the build to make it work with a z790 proart. You could dig a bit in that thread. Though, to be honest the difference between the z690 proart and the z790 proart is almost non existing, it is essentially the same board with minute modifications. I've just ordered the z690 proart, seeing no reason to pay more for the same board, and to stay in the Golden Build sector.

Hello.

I did choose this board because of not getting my Z490 Vision D delivered.

Everything works with the install of 12.6.3. .... with the EFI 12.3.+ you delivered-
Did the USB Portmapping via hackintool no TB ports showed up!

What does not work:

Lan 2.5
Lan 10
Bluetooth
Wlan

What works little:

TB seems to work a little ...
I get connected to a tb4 OWC Dock providing Lan (Provides USB)
I get connected to a tb1 Dock of Belkin thru TB3 to TB2 adapter (Provides USB)

No connection thru TB3 to TB2 adapter to my antelope Orion 32+ (now connected via usb)

See my integration via hackintool.

Need your help an suggestions.

Best wishes
Kopevic

Sorry for forgetting serial removed

@kopevic Not a specialist, but USB mapping do not necessarily concern the TB ports, they are located under another controller, with its own 15 ports limits.

TB is erratic, that is normal, try to plug a device and reboot. Hotplug for TB works only with a flashed TB chip.

2.5 lan does not work, Middleman mentioned it from the get go.
10 lan should work IF VT-D is enabled in bios

You will also need to enable VT-d in BIOS to enable the Aquantia 10GBe port as this includes a new fix for the AQC107 Aquantia under Monterey 12.3+ ONLY. However the 2.5GBe ports will not work.

If you enable VT-D, remember to disable DIsableIOmapper quirk.

I have personally never tried lan on this board, and same for wifi. Wifi should work though, but not bluetooth.

To enable WiFi in the Big Sur EFI you must disable itlwm.kext, whereas in the Monterey version Airportitlwm.kext must be enabled.

Thank you very much.
I did all the suggested things. 10 Lan runs now. But still no Wlan. In this Video about port mapping the TB ports are included in the 15 port limit .... the also show up as usb-c ports.

So long
