Hi, rehabman
The other problem is sometimes it spend much time (about 3 minutes or longer) to boot into macOS Sierra, then the BlueTooth device is not available. reboot again, the boot time is normal (less than 30 seconds), and BlueTooth is work.

After remove CMOS battery, should I reset BIOS again?
delete all mac NVRAM variables is hard to me.

That nvram -p seems to indicate your backlight-level is 0 (black).
Make sure you capture the output when the display is active and brightness is not set to the minimum level (not black).
After CMOS reset, you will need to revisit your BIOS settings to insure they are correct.

Make sure fast boot is NOT disabled in BIOS.

I'm having an interesting issue with my Elitebook 840 G3. I was previously on 10.12.6 and everything was working fine. I tried doing the direct upgrade to 10.13.1 and it failed horribly. After quite a bit of troubleshooting I said screw it and blew away the drive in order to start clean.

I've erased my disk a total of three times now to be certain I followed the directions properly. After each install, my sound does not work. The hotkeys to control the volume are working properly, and the Sound Pref Pane under SysPrefs seems to be working properly, but no matter what I do I cannot get it to play any sound. I've tried increasing/decreasing volume to it's max, toggled mute, plugged in headphones, etc. It just will not play any sounds whatsoever. I had no issues with sound prior to this.

Attached are the requested problem reporting files, and below are screenshots of the pref pane for sound. It's interesting to note that while I can't hear anything being played through the sound card, I can see that the microphone is picking up sound.

Is BIOS up-to-date?
Did you try EC reset?
Try alternate layout-id.
Test audio in Windows to be certain the hardware is working.
