Hello,
I have a near-functional build using the latest version of Yosemite (10.10.1). My current issue is a seemingly random freezing of the computer. It occurrs around 10 minutes after being in the OS, but I don't think that time is set in stone. Tasks during the freezing include a download through steam and using iTunes. My build can be seen in my signature. Any help would be appreciated, as this is my first build. Thank you.

Up to this point, I've encountered and fixed the following problems:
  1. difficulty reading the Unibeast usb drive,
  2. boot0 error

What version is your BIOS?

Gigabyte says that you need F4 (or above) for that 4790K.

Good Luck

Thanks for the prompt response. I do not know the current version of the bios as I am out at the moment, but I will check when I return. I didn't consider the fact that despite it's a new purchase, it might not have the latest version of the bios.

So I checked my bios yesterday and saw that I had gigabyte bios version F4, so then upgraded last night to F5 but still encountering the freeze. I can't find any pattern that leads up to the freeze, except that it usually occurs within 30 minutes after I log into os x. To articulate the freeze a bit more, it's just a solid graphical freeze, as if I'm looking at a screenshot of my desktop in its current state (no movement whatsoever).

Is there a specific log in OS X which can point me to the right direction as far as what is freezing my computer?

Does it randomly lock up and / or restart or does it show a kernel panic on the screen and then restart? Nonetheless, you can check what was happening in system.log (use the command below to look at it):

Code:
cat /var/log/system.log

It randomly freezes, and does not restart by itself (I have to hold the power button or press the restart button). The timing of the freeze seems random, as I was working for several hours yesterday until the machine froze. I pasted the somes lines of the system log before it froze, below.

Does it freeze if you don't use Google Chrome ?

I'll have to try not using Chrome. I think Chrome has been open each time the crash has happened, as I almost always have a web browser open. I'll report back this evening with results. Thank you.

I don't think it's a chrome issue, as it's frozen up without running chrome.I can't find any pattern in the system log right before the freezing occurs.
