Hi guys, I was just casually browsing around the Apple site investigating the price of Final Cut these days and minimum requirements for it. I stumbled across this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664 which is a list of "compatible" GPUs that apple uses. Apparently from this page http://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/specs/ Final Cut requires a GPU that does OpenCL graphics processing.

So does this all mean that I should be buying a 780, or 780ti just to run FCP? Or could I get by simply with a 770 or 760? (both of which, btw, are not on the Apple branded compatibility list). Also should/could I even go to an AMD card like the 7950 if I want best FCP performance? I feel like such a newb!:rolleyes:

Thanks community!

What comes closest to the D500/700 Firepro performance is the R9 280X or R9 290X. We're hoping
that these get full support from OS X soon. Some are already using these with success. Use search.
If you want a less expensive older card you can still find new ATI 5770's on Ebay. This is one
way to go if you don't need super high OpenCL/Luxmark scores. The Nvidia 760-780's don't really perform that well in FCP X. Those work the best with Premiere Pro.

Thanks trs96, but would going AMD for graphics be better for all around media work? Is it really that big of an improvement in FCP performance over Nvidia? Also why aren't any AMD cards on the recommended GPU list for the Buyer's Guide? Thats the only reason I'm weary to switching over.

Due to circumstances of my business, I will be using both Apple, Adobe, and Black Magic media editors heavily, so I'm looking for the best graphics line for that job.

If you're not using FCP X exclusively then the GTX 770 is probably your best choice. For someone
editing in Final Cut all day long the only choice, imo would be AMD for OpenCL performance.

Ok, thanks much trs96, I think I'll go with that then! :headbang:
