HP 4540s: "Product Information Not Valid" error message at system start up

Did you see the brief message on a white screen saying that the SMC command was handled successfully? I really can't help you if you do not provide more specific information. Even in that case, I've only performed this procedure on a 4540s; it might be different on your hardware.

At what point is the unlock failing, and what is the message?

Note that the BIOS version has been updated to F.62 from F.60. That didn't help, but it also didn't break anything further.

HP 4540s: "Product Information Not Valid" error message at system start up

I just ran into this "Product Information Not Valid" problem this week with my daughter's ProBook 4540s. I'll relay the steps that I successfully used to remedy the problem, and hopefully save someone else the days of unsuccessful attempts. I believe these steps will be nearly identical for all...

You will get this error if your MPM is locked (which it probably is) and you haven't yet run SMC.bin to unlock it.

System Information screen prior to problem

This is a photo that I took of the System Information screen when I updated the BIOS to F.60 a year and a half ago. Most of this information is printed on your computer, but it's awfully difficult to find and determine what the text actually says.

Underside of an HP Probook 4540s. You don't need to dissemble as far as I did, just take the cover and battery off. I was unable to ever find a System Board CT that met the 14-character alphanumeric criteria physically on the laptop.

Envy 17-J100 10.11.4 audio Be aware that 10.11.4 Beta will remove your Built-in audio device. This is fixed by running: $ cd ~/Projects/envy.git $ ./patch_hda.sh IDT76e0_Envy Creating AppleHDA injector for IDT76e0_Envy... Done. ...or at least I think that's what fixed it; I struggled for...

[Guide] HP Envy Haswell series J/K using Clover UEFI

The USB ports all work as USB2 and USB3 before and after sleep. I noticed, however, that the touchscreen hasn't worked since installing USBXHC_Envy.kext

With a current git pull of the repo all ports work with USB 2 devices, and when a USB 3 device is used they yield USB 3 speeds (circa 100 MB/sec write times).

[Guide] HP Envy Haswell series J/K using Clover UEFI

Thanks for the great advice! I installed USBXHC_Envy.kext using Kext Wizard, and the issue was resolved. I can now close lid and it goes to sleep, and wakes again when I open the lid. I believe everything is now working on this install of 10.11.1, including USB 3.

Envy 17-J100 running 10.11.1, the display turns off when I close the lid and will not turn back on. If I leave the lid open and allow it to sleep naturally, it wakes as it should. If I select SLEEP from the Apple menu, it sleeps and wakes as it should. If I put the laptop to sleep and then close...

[Guide] HP Envy Haswell series J/K using Clover UEFI

Apparently I was using the wrong config.plist on my USB's EFI; I was using config_HD4600_4400_4200.plist (renamed to config.plist) and the display becomes garbled. I tried each of the suggest Haswell ig-platform-id values with the similar results. When those all failed, I used the one from...
