    Weird Finder color issues

So I was poking around, and discovered that I could make the problem go away by choosing a different color profile under Display in System Preferences... and then later when I selected the actual profile for my monitor again, the problem didn't come back. Don't know what was wrong, but at least...

    Weird Finder color issues

So I managed to get my system update to High Sierra (it was pretty uneventful once I got it underway). But I have a slightly weird thing going on with selected files in Finder, and I've seen the same thing on blue graphical buttons, where there's orange color on my screen that shouldn't be...

El Capitan -> High Sierra upgrade issues

I could have sworn I copied FakeSMC to the usb stick after installing clover... but I took a second look at my stuff before getting started tonight and it wasn’t there. Derp. Fixed that. I decided to just bite the bullet and install to my SSD so it wouldn’t be so horribly slow; I can always...

El Capitan -> High Sierra upgrade issues

Hi, I tried unsuccessfully last night to upgrade to High Sierra. GA P55-USB3 board, i5-760, 8 GB RAM, GTX 970. Not wanting to bork my working install that's been running well for like 2 years, I cloned my El Capitan boot drive to a USB HDD, installed Clover 4700 to a usb stick, ran the installer...

[Solved] X64 Exception Type with new Samsung 850 SSD

So FWIW, wiping out the EFI partition on the SSD and replacing it with a copy of the one from the HDD fixed it. Maybe some kind of weird incompatibility between the newer Clover and my crappy old motherboard?

[Solved] X64 Exception Type with new Samsung 850 SSD

added observations: I think the above is not 100% accurate. I'm not sure I actually had the clover installation on the old HDD booting up. The SSD has a newer version (4077 on the SSD vs 3974 on the HDD). Right now, with the SSD is back in the USB dock, if it is plugged in when the system boots...

[Solved] X64 Exception Type with new Samsung 850 SSD

My old HDD with my El Capitan install has become incredibly slow and I think it is beginning to fail, so I got a Samsung 850 SSD, stuck it in my external sata-to-usb dock, and cloned the El Cap drive onto it. I then installed Clover (latest version, 4077) onto the SSD. Shut down, opened up the...

Apple Reveals macOS Sierra at WWDC - Available Fall 2016

I'll be on it a while I imagine. I literally only upgraded from Mavericks this past weekend, for support for the GTX 970 I bought from a coworker.

App Store Login Problem : Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assista

I've just (since May 20 or so, that's the last date listed that Software Update installed something) started getting this problem on my machine. No system changes since that date... in fact today was probably the first time it's rebooted since before then. This is on latest Mavericks version...

    SUCCESS - GA-P55-USB3 rev 2 F9

Edit: Never mind, I got it to boot, but I had to do GraphicsEnabler=Yes and PCIRootUID=1, so completely the opposite of the original post. Installing now, let's see how it works. For future reference: with GraphicsEnabler=No and PCIRootUID=0, when I boot from the USB stick, I get as far as...

    SUCCESS - GA-P55-USB3 rev 2 F9

Glad to see this thread, I've been thinking of upgrading hardware on my machine, but I think I'm going to hold off another year or so and just upgrade my current box to Mavericks. Almost identical system specs to the original post.

Ready to upgrade aging Hackintosh - seeking advice

Thanks, guys. I didn't realize that the non-K used the 2500 for graphics, I was thinking the only difference was the multiplier being unlocked. But, I've done a little poking around at benchmark results and it looks like the GT240 still outperforms the HD4000, so a) I'll keep the GT240, and b) I...

Ready to upgrade aging Hackintosh - seeking advice

My current specs are in my signature. I've got some tax refund money on the way and am wanting to move up to Sandy Bridge. I had a bear of a time upgrading to Mountain Lion and am hoping to endure somewhat less pain in my hardware upgrade. For anyone else who has gone from P55 to Sandy - am I...

Mountain Lion install woes on GA-P55-USB3 (with advice so you don't suffer too)

I spent much of last weekend updating my Hackie to Mountain Lion, and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Multibeast rendered my system unbootable (even from the Unibeast drive) several times, I must have gone through the 30 minute OS X Install process a dozen times, and read 50...

Mac OS X 10.6.6 Update - The Official Thread

I updated with Software Update. Completely uneventful, and I didn't even have to redo the HDA rollback, my 892 is still working perfectly.

OS X Performs Better than Win7 on a Hackintosh?

I compared Geekbench scores under Windows and OS X recently. I didn't save my Windows results, but the main things I noticed were that OS X did remarkably better in floating point operations, and Windows had slightly better memory performance. OS X should support dual channel just fine, and...

    USB oddities and sleep problem

Well, for a bit after my last happy post I continued to have less obvious problems, such as weird system instabilities after waking up from sleep. I actually got hold of an extra SATA drive and installed Windows XP, and was able to recreate the issues there as well, so it's not an OS X issue...

    USB oddities and sleep problem

My CL7D modules finally made it (darn Egg Saver shipping is ludicrously slow - the package has to go through UPS and the USPS to get here, passing through Atlanta on its way from California to Birmingham). I reset the memory settings in the BIOS to default, then loaded the XMP profile, and am...

New Unified Realtek Onboard Audio Solution: ALC8xxHDA

I thought the new driver was working perfectly, but now I'm having some odd glitching at the beginning of any sound that plays. Once something is going, it's fine, but if the computer has been silent for a while, it will glitch again on the next sound. What's funny is I've actually gotten my...

    USB oddities and sleep problem

I've been doing some more fiddling about. I can run the memory at 1500 without wake issues. If I drop the memory multiplier to 8x, I can crank the base clock up well over 160 before having wake issues - but I did have them at 180 (this put the memory at 1440). Of course, neither memtest nor...
