Anybody else having difficulty getting their USB 3 ports working on Rampage IV Black? Had it working in 10.12.6 using GenericUSBXHCI.kext , but no longer working in 10.13.6. Any suggestions?
My mobo uses the Broadcom BCM4352 chipset. On OS 10.11.x I had the wifi working. With Sierra, I decided not to bother. Trying to get it working again with High Sierra as my workspace setup has changed. Thoughts?
Never bothered to use onboard Wifi or Bluetooth since I prefer using ethernet. Anyway, successfully updated to 10.13.6 and can't seem to get Wifi and Bluetooth up and running. Board is R4BE with latest bios.

Upgraded to 10.13.6 .. Same issue here. Sleep/Wake not working. Upon wake, get a black screen and the machine is hung. Have to hold power button and power cycle the entire box. Realize this has been a plaguing issue with this build and High Sierra, so if anybody has a solution or tips, please post.
Having a heck of a time with High Sierra. I just recently (Oct 20) downloaded High Sierra and can assume that the "supplemental update" is part of the installer.
1. So High Sierra installs without a single issue. *NOTE: decided to keep HFS + on the boot drive.
2. Video , audio, iMessage, etc...
Guys.. So I upgraded to High Sierra. Decided just to keep HFS + instead of switching over to APFS. So I get to High Sierra desktop and everything checks out fine. BUT, upon reboot, I'm getting the infinite reboot at startup. Essentially, I'll get the OS X loading progress bar and the box just...
That's great pulpinex! Glad to hear you got it working - particularly with the XFX RX 480. Quite a difference in workflow in FCPX huh? I reacted the same way when I switched over to the 280x card. ;-)
Edit: Thanks for putting up the AMDRadeonX4100.kext . Might help others using the same card.
Heya pulpinex. You should NOT need a Helper card anymore. I realize that many of the threads about getting Radeon GPU working discusses 'helper' cards, but with Sierra 10.12.6 (and High Sierra betas) , helper cards are no longer required. Much of the thread out there about helper card and Radon...
Heya pulpinex:
1. The XFX RX 480 will not work OOB. See the Radeon compatibility list here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/radeon-compatibility-guide-ati-amd-graphics-cards.171291/
2. Additionally, EVERY thread I've read about folks trying to get their XFX card working has been riddled...
Switched from a EVGA 980ti to a Sapphire Vapor-x R9 280x card. My daily workflow is FCPX, Photoshop, After Effects, and Illustrator (cc2017).
Obviously know the difference between Cuda optimized apps VS Open CL, but did not anticipate how much of a difference an AMD GPU makes.
Needless to say...
@Electroma: Is this a new build and are you doing a clean Sierra install? Or are you upgrading to Sierra from a previously stable box of Shilohh's build?
This may or may not impact your ability to install or upgrade Sierra, but I had kernel panics when I swapped out a EVGA 1080 card into my...
Thinking about switching to an AMD GPU as my primary workflow is Final Cut. Anybody running this build with an AMD GPU? And, anything particular that needs to be considered prior to making the switch?
First, huge thanks to shilohh for such a great/stable build.
Just an update report here. Successfully updated from 10.12.5 to 10.12.6 with ZERO issues. Audio works, iMessage, USB 3, etc.
Prior to update I did the following:
1. Backed up boot drive and EFI partition - ensured I could boot...
Yeah. Weighing the cost to performance difference between 3930k vs 4930k. Looks like the 4930k benches about 10% better, but even in the used market, prices out at double. Read your post about the power draw of the 4930k at idle, which is obviously much better than 3930k. Thx for the tip on the...
Thx for the quick response Shilohh! Based on your recommendations, I think I'll spec out EXACTLY as you've built your box. Had to ask about the parts selection as a local guy was dumping for a fairly good deal, but not worth the trouble/hassles/headaches. Just want the build to be stable as it...
Have a local guy parting out his gaming box.
Wanted to check on potential compatibility issues before purchasing the parts. Main concern is the Ram specs and the Gigabyte GTX 980's. Please chime in if you have any thoughts, concerns, or tips regarding the ram and video cards.
Specs for...
