I think its a good idea to start a new thread where anybody can post temporary questions instead of creating a new one every time...;)

I start with 2 before I start my upcoming Hack.

- PSU socket/ Power switch:

I plan to place my PSU on top of case, mostly you just create a new opening for the socket hole and connect the original socket with a new (shorter) extension cable.
That works, but the PSU is always ON, the little power switch cant be reached anymore. Only if you open up the upper back completely, so that you can reach it from the rear.
when I install this one, I think this doesnt power off the PSU, is this right?

- can anybody provide a correct layout of a fitting backpanel ( for mATX with one 120 mm hole) plate like the laser hive one? I will make my own one from an aluminium plate. So any PDF or Vector based format is a huge help...
many thanks,

cheers

The post near the middle of the first page of this thread has a file for a dual 92mm back panel that will line up with the PCI slots and latch. It would be pretty simple to add your own 120mm hole if that's the route you wanted to take.

No. If you install this, and wire it correctly, then the switch will isolate the power from the PSU, exactly the same as if you had pulled the power coard out from the back of the computer, quite different to powering down the computer from front panel if that's what you were thinking

Just a word of caution, if you are going to wire your own AC extension cable you need to get it right. It can have much more significant consequences not just to the computer, but to your own health. If you are not confident I suggest getting a pre made cable or getting some external help.

yes, that I wanted to know, thats the reason there is an additional fuse to it. Of course you could use a switchable powerboard. The thing is, my P8z77-M PRO is drawing power even if shut down by switch, around 7V, I´m used to taking off the power cable off after work.

this would be the wiring for a socket with switch ( without optional power led)

Im in the process of deciding power buttons for the G5 mod.

Ive stripped the front panel i/o already. Im just curious which momentary power button size will be closest to fitting the hole and become secured left by the original power button.

16, 19, or 22mm?

The switch will be something like this

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/22mm-MOM..._Parts_Accessories&hash=item46100e765f&_uhb=1

Secondly, do you think a 30cm power cable from switch to the motherboard in the G5 mod will be long enough?
Thanks

Hi wolfie81

that switch is only rated at 12 Volt ,
if you are switching mains , you need up to 240volts ( depends on the country) , not completely sure but I think FrozenCPU has button switches like this

A 30cm maybe a little short, if it is a bit longer means you route it around things as needed, any extra length can be hidden under the MB anyway. Is there a reason to use a different power switch, the apple one is quite suitable and looks original.
