NVIDIA Driver certificate revoked

Thanks so much! I built this computer over 10 years ago and haven't fussed with any of the software for at least 7 (rock solid machine), so I have forgotten all the maintenance tricks/ hacks. Thanks so much for chiming in.

"nv_disable=1" got my desktop to boot but with a 1280x1024 stretched resolution! Yea! So at least I can stop panicking now and try a few things:

1. There is a security update I have not done yet "2019-005 10.12.6" - should I proceed with update?
2. When I go into the system prefs, I get this error when trying the Cuda and Nvidia driver manager "To use this preference pane, system preferences must quit and reopen" When I hit okay, it reboots sys prefs and asks again, starting an endless loop.
3. I tried an old backup drive that had Yosemite installed for this machine and it seemed to boot up just fine.

I encountered the same garbled graphics and issues:

1. I applied the security update but encountered some issues that were resolved with also updating Lilu.kext to the latest version (https://www.tonymacx86.com/resources/lilu.498/).
2. I continued to encounter the same issue in system prefs

I used Dayo's script / Stage 1 approach (https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...e.2346445/page-19?post=31170583#post-31170583) and was able to install the latest Nvidia web drivers for Sierra (378.05.05.25f19) and CUDA drivers (patched with the script to remove the certificates) but unfortunately I still get the garbled graphics. Part of the approach requires you to boot into safe mode (-x flag in Clover) but for some reason I wasn't able to so I've only tried the approach in Normal boot mode but with no Internet connection as instructed. Note: I have not tried the suggested Stage 2 approach due to security concerns.

If Nvidia were able to released new signed web drivers for Sierra - 378.05.05.25f19, then it should work without requiring us to update to High Sierra.

Hi. Nvidia support has sent me a working driver for sierra that solves the problem, with my GTX 1050. Not sure if it is possible to get it on the download page here.

It seems to be the same that is linked on the download page: WebDriver-378.05.05.25f19.pkg

I installed and it worked again.

Attach it here

I think the driver currently listed on the download page is the older and expired version.

Are you able to share the working driver that Nvidia sent you?

Re @Klaus et al

Drrrr... Isn't the right place to distribute any Nvidia supported driver the Nvidia website?

So what's a little more detail for the story behind Nvidia sending a driver? You mean they sent you a link?

On another forum, it's reported that Nvidia support thinks they don't offer a Mac driver, which could be interpreted at least 3 ways, i.e.; end-of-life, no current mac products, or clueless representative.

As a major computing company distributing end-user drivers by private message, that's quaint.

Please say more about what's going on... Thx

I've found this odd from the beginning. But consensus is I'm wrong to be concerned.

Happy news on my front. I was getting ready to upgrade to High Sierra but thought to tinker with my fingers crossed first.

I booted with "nv_disable=1" and installed the latest security update from apple. Reboot. Booted again with "nv_disable=1" and upon boot, the Nvidia system prefs panel popped up and said something like "your graphics drivers are out of date, would you like to download the latest update." I politely said yes, auto downloaded, installed, reboot. Now graphics are all working again as normal! Thanks everyone so much!

That sounds like good news.

If you update to 10.13.6 (17G14042) you need a newer version of the web-drivers.

If the NVidia system-preferences applet is downloading the new, re-signed version automatically, instead of people having to install any old file they find, that is really great to know. Thanks for posting.

:)
