[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

My question is there a previous version of UniBeast for Mojave. I am sorry for the previous long thread.

I've read that the Z390 boards have issue with NVRAM ? Is this so, and if does it affect this build?

I just wanted to say that the override files exist in macOS. I don't know why they exist. It seems to me the EDIDs from the displays should be sufficient. I guess I should compare the override EDIDs with the real EDIDs to see what Apple thought needed to be changed. For the newer displays 5b74 and 5b7b, the overrides don't exist in Mojave 10.14.3 but do exist in Mojave 10.14.6. The override files also include an icon for macOS to show for the display.
I did the compare. The overlay in the mtdd file is an EDID that contains no info except a timing that includes the entire display (5120x2880 60Hz 938.240 MHz). They have an unknown display ID data block (0x29). It might be nothing.

I applied the EDID patches in the main override file to the EDIDs that bluepr0 posted. The patches just remove the "tiled display block" info (and update the EDID checksum).

Maybe this is just a cosmetic thing to hide the complicated tiling implementation from the user.

The mtdd overlay for the LG 5K HDR display (ultrawide 5120x2160) display has more info than the LG UltraFine 5K displays but I don't have any EDID info for that display to compare.

Got another one, this is new LG with Designare (built-in Titan Ridge). He says he's going to buy a new DP 1.4 cable just in case the one he's using is not.

The best time to change system definition is before licensing or registering a large number of applications and plug-ins. This is because a new system definition is equivalent to a new computer, which means applications and plug-ins must be re-licensed.

What software would need to be re-licensed? I'm not using iMessages, FaceTime, handoff, etc. By plug-ins do you mean audio plug-ins, etc? That would be a nuisance as I already had to request additional authorizations from a couple developers after my fresh install.

Any distinct advantages to updating the system definition?

@jrhillma, the sweet sound of success! Thank you for the write up.

Quick question: In the MultiBeast post-install we enabled emulated NVRAM. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that this mobo (Z390 Designare) has functioning NVRAM onboard. Are there pros/cons to staying wtih emulated NVRAM?

This motherboard does have functional NVRAM, which AptioMemoryFix can access, but not OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000. There’s no harm in using EmuVariable, but we have to be careful when booting from a different disk or when installing a MacOS update because the appropriate startup disk may not be selected in Clover by default.

Messages and FaceTime are not separately licensed and are part of MacOS itself. We’re referring to all third-party apps that require license registration.

There’s no distinct advantage to using a particular sys-def if everything is already working. When we buy a Mac mini, for example, it stays a Mac mini for all eternity.

The primary motivation for changing sys-def is during initial installation when we’re not quite sure whether a Mac mini or an iMac or an iMac Pro is optimal for our hardware and intended workflows. Some apps work more efficiently with a particular sys-def. Video editing apps, for example, are most efficient with iMac Pro, but we must disable IGPU for this.

Please describe the steps you took to prepare the USB flash disk, the size of the disk, and whether it contains an EFI partition. For example, can you insert the USB disk into your Mac and mount the EFI partition with “EFI Mounter v3” or any suitable app?
